    Hi

Last week i picked up a '99 berlinetta. There was a post here about it a while back, its an F1 car converted to a Gated manual.
I was stunned at the condition on the car. its excellent top and bottom and very well maintained/ complete documented and looked after.

I put it on my lift last night and check out the conversion, the F1 harness is neatly bundled up in place, ecu are all this in place, brackets and emblems are still there.

I haven't decided what to do with the the car concerning leaving it as a 6sp gated vs F1.
I realized i have about 5 hours experience now driving a ferrari, but Ive found the close proximity of the peddles slightly awkward for my feet, and the gated shifter by design it hard to "bang gears"...sometimes i even have to look down when shifting lol
. Im used to GM 6spd and their ease of finding the right gear.
I think i will just give it some time to learn and get used to.

So my first question about the F1. The previous owner took it in for a belt service and when it came out, it apparently wouldn't go in 1st. They said "one of the actuators is bad" he also told me the pump is good. I do think there might be an miss understanding on some of the terms, pump actuator, power unit and valve body etc
I have read dozens and dozen of threads on here and 90% have pump failures and 1 or 2 had the valve body associated with the pump break. But i have not read any issues with the actually actuator attached to the gearbox other than leaking.
I have the parts, off the car. Those with knowledge would you guess its my actuator, pump or the valve body? Is there any way to bench test it? It be great to just through a 360pump on it and be able to swap back.

The first owner has $1800 worth of receipts for stickys being removed. the triangle panels on the door the cover the bolts for the mirrors.... were those "stickys" ? I ask because they look painted now and the paint is slightly chipped.

I really dont want to been "seen" and for leather protection/comfort I will be tinting the windows, is there any lamination on the glass?

    4th
Many exhaust systems (tubi, capristo) differentiate "for F1" or for "manual trans" what about the f1 system effect the muffler?

    5th
if i was to keep it a gated car, i would want non-F1 emblems and gauges.
I noticed the "355 F1" on the passenger side dash looks pressed into the leather, any idea how its attached?
As far as the gauges, this tread has a how to: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/382211-355f1-oil-temp-gauge-clock-swap.html
BUT according to the diagrams the manual cars have the oil press/water temp combo in the dash and f1 cars have gear/water combo. so it appears i would have to not only buy the water/oil press combo, but then an oil temp as well to replace my oil pressure above the radio.
A lot of confusing ramblings but does anyone have insight into the wiring or another post explaining this?

    Thanks guys!

Impossible to know for sure what the problems are with your F1 bits. Probably no way to test things without putting them back first. It's a clutching/shifting system only. No differences in exhaust systems. What you have now is almost certainly more reliable and cheaper to own long-term. I would be happy with it as-is. I understand your desire to convert emblems and other F1 specific things. Some are easy (used parts are available). Some are not so much.

Congratulations on the purchase. I considered that same car before I settled on mine as it seemed well cared for and enthusiast owned.

As said above, you really won't know until you return it to the F1 setup. I would imagine the previous owner did the swap because the actuator needed replacing (pricey...$10k?) but apparently you can have them rebuilt now for a fraction of that cost.

I've owned many manual cars and have driven many sequential gearboxes. The 355 is very unique. One of a kind to operate in a very good way. I couldn't be happier with my decision to go F1, and I would say to try swapping back during my next winter. In the mean time row them gears and enjoy the car. :)

It takes skill to use the gated shifter in a hurry. The direct rod linkage also gives a lot of mechanical feedback.

    Just keep practicing :)

Russ at FerrParts will have the emblems you need.

I believe the emblem in the dash is pressed in and held from behind with some clips.

The temptation to switch is strong. The actual event is not complicated and reversible later if desired.

    Enjoy the car.

I would drive it until it needs a service. Read all you can and then i would probably switch it back.

No wrong answer. The car looked nice. Most would tell you to restore to OEM for max value.

In the meantime see what you like over time. There's no rush. It's kind of cool that you can switch back and forth depending on your preference. Just labor needed and your one part fixed or replaced.

    Congrats again.

I'm not sure what the actual differences are, but when I had the Kreissieg crossover pipes installed on my F1 car, some hydraulic lines had to be rerouted to make space. I guess the mufflers might have similar issues to contend with.
