murcielago or 360?

Was just wondering if anybody here has a murci, and what kind of experience they have had with it, maitenance, issues etc. Im looking at an 03 and just would like some feedback,Thanks.

 

I have no personal first hand experience. However, I was once at a Ferrari/Porsche event and they invited a Lamborghini dealer who brought several cars to show off. The salesmen told us that the Murcielago was designed by the prior owner and the Gallardo under Audi's control such that the Murcielago is a nightmare to maintain, etc. compared to the Gallardo. No question about it the Murcielago is a cool beautiful car but the fact that they are so cheap compared to their original prices, suggests that the maintenance is very expensive and a hassle. I've seen these cars listed in the $130k's. Good luck.

 

I've had 4 Murci's. A silver 2002, a yellow 2002, a blue 2003, and currently have an orange 2007 LP640. I have spent less on service of all 4 Murci's combined than what I spent on the one Ferrari I had, a 512TR.

2003 Murci's are a great value. Maintenance depends on how the prior owner(s) drove and maintained the car. I have never had to change a clutch in a Murci yet. I put 5000 miles on the silver '02, almost 10,000 miles on the yellow '02, and 14,000 miles on the blue '03. Clutch changes depend on how the car is driven. I learned a lot about driving a Murci from Roy (you know - Cats Exotics). I'm sure he'll chime in on the thread at some point, he always has something to say. lol

 

Lambo all the way, no comparison. Ive logged over 50k miles on Lambos and never had anything crazy happen. They are great cars and were built to be driven. IMO the more you enjoy, the less problems you will have.

Audi was very much in control of what ended up to be the Diablo replacement. If it had not been for Audi we would have ended up with the Canto. What is true is that the Murci is an evolution of the Diablo vs the Gallardo being a more seperate design.

Big V12 or little V8?

These cars are in two different leagues, so the choice is easy imo.

Murcielago a nightmare to maintain? LOL LOL LOL...I've personally had 3 Murcielago's and driven over 100+ Murcie's and I can guarantee you that they are FAR from a nightmare to maintain. My current 03 just hit 27k miles, on the original clutch still with no signs of slipping to date....aside from fluid changes, I've put a battery in the car, tires and one alarm relay. Previous Murcies, 03 and 07....even LESS in terms of maintenance.

You cannot compare a 360 to a Murcie...not even in the same class...you could compare a Gallardo to a 360, but even that isn't fair as the two cars are completely different and focused on different experiences.

Drive one of each and decide for yourself. A 360's resale will be affected by mileage and the "service intervals", allbeit that with the 360 Ferrari FINALLY made a belt change somewhat affordable...while the Murcie does not need to address this specific service or service interval.

Just do research and decide if you want a AWD V12 or a 2WD V8....both have qualities and both have hinderances....just depends on which suits your own lifestyle and/or wishlist.

 

I went from a 360 Spider 6 spd to a Murci Roadster 6 spd. Very different cars, but I loved both. The Murci is so over the top. It's fast, wide and those doors! Never had any issues with the Murci. The Murci is very well built. A friend of mine put over 50K miles on his 2002 with no zero problems. They may be better built than the 360 IMO...

Designed would be a strong word for the Diablo 6.0 - influenced would be more like it. The subtlely here is that the original Diablo replacement design (ie Canto) started before the Audi purchase but it was rejected by the head of VAG before it was completed.

If I am not mistaken, the last Lamborghini V12 to be designed by Lamborghini without any interference from any outside company was the Countach! The Diablo designed by Marcello Gandini was rejected in 1987-88 by Chrysler management (under Chrysler's ownership of Lambo) and was significantly redesigned to soften the angular design of Gandini to create the final Diablo. Gandini was so pissed off he essentailly removed himself from the design and disowned the final Diablo design...

 

Not true................they resolved some issues and kissed and made up, hence his signature on all Diablos up to the 6.0


The 6.0 had a different shape, with a modified front end, front fenders, sills, bumpers, etc. done by the Murci designer, Loc whatever his name was.

 

Did not know they resolved their differences! That's cool.

 

I enjoyed driving the Murcielago.

I know a few people, who have had good ownership experiences with the Murcielago.




The Murcielago is far more of an exotic, in substance and appeal, when compared to the common 360, which is parked at every upscale boutique.

 

Definitely a Murcie over a 360. Everyone I know that has owned a Murcie, has never had anything but positive things to say.

 

Oh! Almost forgot about the subject of the thread - sorry! I have had 2 Ferraris 2006 F430 Coupe and an F430 Spider (delivered new to me). I loved both cars but the process of buying Ferraris is not pleasant. I now have a 2009 Murci LP640. Scheduled maintenance is cheaper than the Ferraris and the Murci is in a different league when it comes to looks! I would suggest you go with the Murci if you have no issues with the attention you will get on the road (good and bad)

 

Initially maybe but not at the end. The 25th Countach was Chrysler influenced.

yea, and he is in jail! But the Indonesian ownership had no impact on design. The owners let the Italians completely run the company from what I have read.

 

Ghandini gets all the credit for the Diablo design but his design looked like TOTAL crap to me. Yes, he designed the basic shape but his version looked like a BAD kit car. He is lucky Chrysler (who would have thunk it?) stepped in and saved him from himself.

Okay, back on subject.....

The 02-03 Murci is a GREAT car that was very well built. I would feel a LOT more comfortable driving that across country than a 360. My mechanic has said many times that the early Murci is as sound of a car as any that Lamborghini has made. In addition to that, you don't have to worry about the belt services (no belts). It won't lose ANY value from where it is at right now. You are guaranteeing yourself a loss of value with the 360 (could be a third of the value depending on what year you buy, by the time you sell it).

 

to follow up on the above... I would agree that the Murci will probably depreciate less than a 360. 12 cyl vs. 8 cyl = more collectible, and much lower production numbers for the Murci. I don't think any modern exotic is going to appreciate in value, though. But I do disagree about depreciation, if you enjoy the car as Feruccio intended, and put a bunch of miles on it, the value will go down. But you're not buying it as an investment, are you??? Buy what you like and enjoy it.

 

Murcielago SV 6spd, is a modern scarce vehicle.


As far as production is concerned, it is also the last of the Lamborghini manual gearbox supercars.

Give it a few years, and it will bring more than MSRP - adjustable for inflation.

 

Went from an '00 360 to a '02 Murci 6 speed.

Two completely different animals. Haven't experienced any maintinence issues to date. Fun as hell, and just a blast to drive. Just a HUGE bang for your buck right now on the '02 '03's IMHO
