Check out the "Speed Kings - Thunder Road part II" article in the new September addition of Road & Track.

One of our local Southern California Lamborghini Murcielago owners loaned his car to R&D for the speed runs and it found itself in some very heavy company (the Bugatti Veyron to mention one).

Unfortunately, the Murcie couldn't hit much over 190 for reasons un-know less the speculation that the oversized wheels effected the gearing on the car. I know a guy who had his Murcie up to 190 on one occasion and he said it felt like it had at least another 10mph left in it but he didn't have the room to keep going!!!!

Anyway, the Murcie had a respectable run in the first mile, read it and see what you think. But I can't help but think I would have loved to see how the LP640 matched up :)

Look forward to reading it. The wheels must have affected the gearing or the speedometer. I've done over 200 mph in both of the 2002 Murcielagos I've owned.

You're a man after my heart, well done :)

Accurate speedometer or not these cars are already on record as hitting over 200mph (in fact with R&T and they mention it in the article) :)

I don't know how accurate the speedos are, but both the speed and the digital max speed were above 200 mph. As the cars are both 2002 Murcielagos, the digital max speed display reads in kmh while the speedometer reads in mph. I'm not sure exactly how Lamborghini speedos work, but when I had a 911 Turbo, I got different speed readings from the speedometer and the digital display.
