There is probably a thread out there on this already. But....what do you think? I have been discouraged because I used to trade cars every year or so. But, I have had my murci for three years. I wanted to buy an aston martin vantage. Never have owned one. Well, I bought my murci before the crash, so I owe $140k on it! Trade offers have been $90-100k. I would have to pay $40k just to sell the car! Ouch! I could probably buy an aston at auction for $20k more than that. Doesnt make much sense. Anyone else frustrated? What do you think I could bring for my car? it is a 2002 fly yellow with 13,500 miles. Do you see the murcielago rebounding in price, or just sitting there forever?

    I would keep the car.

It is too much car, for 90/100K.

What other kind of modern car can you buy, for that kind of money ?

I do not see prices rebounding.

    Buy a classic !

I agree. There are way to many modern exotic cars for sale. Prices will go down from here as time goes by.

Some Classics will hold their value but now is not the time to pay up for anything.

    I agree with Jim.

Modern cars are not an investment right now. That's not going to change any time soon. The Murci is a LOT of car. If you are going to sell it and feel the sting, why not get a car you really want and not mind hanging on to for longer than a year?

I sold my Vantage for a song and a dance.Way overpriced for what you get IMHO
Keep the Murci and get an M6 or a nice Mercedes.Much better value.

    OMG, here we go again..

First off, your prices of 90K-100K I am sure are offers from a Dealer for "trade-in" credit towards a new car. So they of course do not show the RETAIL dollars the car is worth. Of course Dealers have to buy lower and then sell to make money..BUT the day of take trade for $90K and sell fro $120K SHOULD be over, just to greddy a Dealership for that IMO. Yes, make money fair and square...but dont rip the cutomer...becuase if you do this..I GUARANTEE you they will be a ONE time customer only.

I would prefer to make a "fair" profit and have the customer return each year or so for me to make a "fair" profit. I compare it to the Seras and Roebuck theory from the turn of the Century..

Have one store and one customer and make $100, or have 10 stores and 10 customers and make $12.00 on each? It is the ONLY way in this market you will survive..BUILD your customer and fair trade business, or you will be a one time, one stop shop.

Now, as for your car..a few quick notes. the "fly yellow" is a rare and IMO better color than the Pearl Yellow...a Plus, the aftermarket wheels need to go bye bye for updated Murcie wheels, a negative...miles, low for a 9 year old car, a plus...good service history a plus..I would need to see interior, mods, accident or paint for further price information.

BUT I can guarantee you your car is worth more than 100K!! I would place a retail price on your car of $122,888 (after OEM wheels back on it and with the limited info I have on it). I can pretty sure bet you a "better" trade price as well...even if you want to do an Astin Martin..can get those no problem.

DONT let it go for 90-100K..your getting your chain yanked and being taken advantage of. IMO

And as far as cars being an investment...they NEVER WILL BE. All a happy customer needs to have and know is that they enjoyed the time with their car and the cost per mile is an acceptable cost for the joy of driving in the short time we have here on earth.

The question of 'where is the bottom' of the Murcielago market is one I have often pondered. Given the numbers produced (over 4000 in all variations) this about doubles Diablo and Countach production. Moreover the Countach is already a classic and the Diablo is old enough to really start showing some pricing strength. For this reason it may be hard to compare to these cars.

If you look at what you can buy a Ferrari 456, 550, or even 612 it may offer a little insight as to how much these modern V12 supercars are likely to fall from their MSRP's. Guys lets not start a Ferrari vs. Lambo war here but I'm trying to draw a similar comparison. That said the Murcielago is so wild and exotic that it is bound to have a little more holding power in price as there are more people who would want to be in a Lambo than the more common looking afforementioned Ferrari's. This increased demand is sure to hold prices up but where is the retail bottom?

Trying to predict the market is futile however I cannot see the Murcielago drop to Testarossa prices ($30-50K) over time. I'm pretty confident that it will not go up for a very long time (decades maybe) as it is still the new toy that will only get older and less desirable. For sure by any metric it is a hell of a car in the low 100's. My prediction is that they will drop to around there or maybe in the 90's for nice clean examples shortly after the Murcielago replacement comes out. Beat up 'story' cars are another thing so I'm not considering that. By that time the early cars are going to be about 10 years old so age related and condition related things will really creep in as clean cars become harder and harder to get.

My opinion but I'd be interested to get some feedback. As the LP400 has shot well out of my means I have a very special place for an Atlas Orange Murci and the recent prices are making it really attractive :)

As an added point I think that Roy's points are pretty dead on as the market currently sits.

    keep it.

Look around, there is no comparison to your car.

Screw the AM, its no better than what you have. I would need a better reason to screw myself letting go of this car.

I looked at the silver car here a few weeks ago. It was listed at 99k with 32k miles. They were doing a complete service and adding a new clutch.
Seemed like a good deal to me...

I think the 90-100k offers from dealers are very fair . As you have seen the prices on these cars just keep falling. In another 6 months you won't even get that. I have seen plenty cars at Manheim Riverside not sell and struggle to get to $90k. The no sales are not on the MMR. That being said maybe just keep it if you don't want to take the hit. Many people buy newer cars and they have to accept they are just depreciating assets. You have a nice car.

The bigger problem is that even though you owe $140k on a ~$100k car, you are daily paying interest which increases the liability you are carrying. If you could bail for $120k like Roy states and write a check for the difference, you would come out ahead when you factor the interest. Then, you would never want to buy a toy on payments and be able to better enjoy the car during your ownership. Your car is too leveraged right now for you to be able to justify the loss.

My unsolicited advise: keep the car, pay it off and drive the wheels off of it!! (and put the new factory Murcie wheels on)

Yep...the sky is falling again LOL

Bet you can pick up a 2002 Murcie in 6 months for $80K..

Whatever...so tired of hearing this and people REALLY thinking this..

Come back and see me this summer when there are no NEW cars to be had and the used cars have held and IMO gone up from today...

And a WHOLESALE Dealer auction dont mean CRAP...most of those Dealers have not a CLUE about exotic cars and are on site thinking they can steal one...the REAL EXOTIC car Dealers never go to these auctions..we buy and trade amongst ourselfs and with our clients..

AND THAT is why there are so many NO SALES..as they wont be given away..EVEN at Auction.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

    ....see....you should have kept it.

You would have a true Lamborghini, paid for, and worth about the same or more than your Murci.

.....only "razzing " you here. :D

But...when does the "have the latest" merry-go-round get tiring. You haven't even kept a car long enough for it to have it feel part of you.

That said, why not keep the car you have and enjoy it. Are you really that bored of it!?!

There was a time that many of these cars were selling at good prices at auctions . Not anymore. Those days are over and you know it. Many exotic car dealers attend these high line sales. I hate to say it but the big inside joke is that you can see dollars coming out of the exhaust pipes as people drive. These are all regular production cars that depreciate. Lambo made too many new models. The older Countachs and later Diablos seem to be doing much better cause there were not so many built.
