Must every thread be contaminated?

    It's getting to be that every thread in Off Topic is plaster with disgusting photos of half naked fat women or obnoxious 3rd grade bathroom humor that most people gave up in junior high school. It really is a pain to be at your work computer browsing F-chat only to find that yet another thread has been contaminated with disgusting garbage so that now yet another thread has to be avoided.

    Can some of you guys actually make an attempt to elevate your humor level above that of a grade school bathroom? It's getting to the point that F-chat browsers at their work computers have to purge the hard drive of obnoxious JPGs several times a day. Most of us don't come to F-chat to see disgusting garbage that is easily available on 10,000 other web sites.

    (And I'm sure that some bozo will post YET ANOTHER obnoxious semi-obscene photo on this thread so that IT TOO becomes contaminated.)

    Does anybody else think that the Off Topic section is DEvolving into the lowest common denominator?

    That would be weird if threads didn't get off-topic especially in the Off-topic section !!!

    No condemnation. But if somebody wants to see naked fat hogs that are NWS, then they should be labeled appropriately. Besides, seeing a naked hog at lunch time is enough to accelerate the hurling factor toward the positive direction.

    Just because something is Off Topic does not mean it has to be borderline obscene and/or disgusting. Sort of like sitting down to dinner in a nice restaurant only to have the guy at the next table start cussing like a sailor. With no warning, it gets a little old after a while. And totally immature which I don't believe is the goal of F-chat.

    Humor yes. Obnoxious naked fat hogs without warning, no thanks.

    I agree. I hate that I can't even allow my children to learn more about Ferraris on FChat because of the obscene photos and posts in the 'Other Off Topic' section. If you want porn, there are a lot better sites on the internet than FChat...go to one of those sites instead.

    I like potty humor and naked women. But I own the company so i'm not going to get in trouble for anything on my computer. Just don't come into off topic and you'll be fine. Besides what are you doing in here on company time anyway? Why should we have to clean up OT so people can be in here doing something they probably aren't supposed to be doing anyway?

    I have no problems with potty humor, naked ladies, fat chicks, etc etc. I just don't understand why every single thread in OOT has this in it. It's bizarre. There are threads that have absolutely nothing to do with anything remotely offensive, and yet somehow, someone manages to drag it down. Most of the time by slinging insults at other members. I recognize that these insults are generally to be taken light heartedly, and are meant to be funny, but it gets old.

    Here's the typical OOT thread...

    Serious question
    >serious answer - Person A
    >>serious answer - Person B
    >>>serious answer - Person C

    Then someone comes along, sees that Person B posted in the thread, and adding nothing to the discussion, quotes him and calls him a pole licker (in jest). Person B comes back with something else, and then Persons D,E,F... join in. Then, the thread becomes more or less useless.

    I know there is a lot of experience and knowledge between the members of this board, and it's sad to see so many potentially informative threads spiral off topic, IMO.

    I'm with Frank, I won't look at this site any more if my kids are around. Too much bad language disguised with punctuation or mis-spelling and too many bad pics. The kids get it.

    It's sad, my oldest really wants his own user name here.

    I don't really care but I agree with the fact that no one should be complaining about OOT content that isn't suitable to be viewed while at work.. you shouldn't be on OOT at work if it's not allowed. OFF TOPIC isn't supposed to be serious, it's a place for everyone to get together and bs about life. :D

    Whether I'm "supposed" to be here or not is immaterial. The obnoxious photos are still here without being flagged as NWS.

    Why can't you clean up OT simply because this is a decent web site that doesn't deserved to be dragged through a swamp like a million other web sites?
    As for me and my work computer; Most of the time, F-chat is just 1 of 3 or 4 things that are going on at the same time. Unlike a 19th century lumbermill, my bosses and my company couldn't care less whether I'm on F-chat or not. By the end of the day, my work is done and all is well.

    I'll clean up some existing threads over the coming days and a few of the usual suspects have been warned. I'm sure there will be a few individual feathers ruffled, but we need to raise OOT up a level or two overall.

    What I'm mostly concerned with is…

    • The immature thread hijacks.
    • Too much NWS content.
    • Inside jokes and individual conversations that should be offline.
