I'm just about to spec a new 458 Spider (whooppeeeee!)
I'd really value you opinion regarding 'must have options' since clearly the dealership believes everything is must have

    Uncertainties are -
    Special wheels
    Coloured brake calipers
    Sports exhaust
    Carbon
    Parking camers
    Raise/lower

If it helps, my two most likely colour combos are

White exterior, black wheels (?), black interior, probably white stitching, horses, rev counter (or black?), probably carbon steering wheel with LED
Red, probably standard wheels (unless persuaded otherwise), beige interior, probably black upper dashboard area, maybe carbon steering wheel with LED (less convinced with this interior colour scheme, not sure about stitching, probably neutral

Contributions very welcome, excited as hell

Options are a customization thing....what one person likes someone else may not....for instance, I'm not a fan of the standard wheels so those are a must have....my dealer told me the lifter was a must have but I went without it....I went with the camera but no sensors....

That's the best thing about ordering, you can do it however you want....

You need the upgrade wheels and led steering wheel for resale in the UK, so I would go for both. I would also say that racing seats are a must.

Lifting system you dont need. Ive never had the need for it wherever I went in mine.

Personally feel carbon is a waste of money but that comes down to personal cosmetic preference.

Calipers - I would say yes. Ive heard that the standard matt look deteriorates cosmetically.

Rear camera - never needed one. The sensors are good enough. Think front and rear sensors fold in mirrors.

I have the black rev counter and it works really well.

Understand leather headliner is a must. The standard headliner is pretty cheesy.

    Other Must Haves for me:
Shields. No shields will hurt resale.
    LED Steering Wheel
Comfortable seats. Electric and heated for my bad back.
    AFS.
    Sirius/XM radio.

You don't NEED Nav. Garmin unit is a fraction of the price and can be moved from car to car
Front and rear sensors are nice.
Rear camera is nice as view rearward is limited. Nice to have if backing into your garage.
Sports exhaust is black. You won't need metal cleaner to clean the soot off your 3 tailpipes.

Stitching, piping and cavallinos all look great. It's personal preference.

Cruise control aka Pit Speed can be added later. Do you drive on mostly freeways (motorways?)?

    Enjoy your new spider.

The Scuderia Shields are a must-have, IMO. Excluding them will likely affect resale value and lengthen the time to sell.

    Must have's:

CF steering wheel with LED's (or CF driving zone)
    Forged wheels of some kind
    Shields
Calipers in color on request (unless you want flat black calipers)

    Things that you probably want

    Cruise control
    Back up sensors
    Stitching on request
    Sat Radio antenna
    Leather headliner over standard
    Homelink
    Powered Daytona seats
    Ipod

Things that really make a difference but aren't cheap

    Upper leather zone in color
    Racing package and racing seats
    CF B pillar
    Stitching of Horse on seats
    Alcantara

    Debatable Options:

AFS: Helpful in driving at night if you have a lot of curves to see around. Otherwise, standard is OK.

Full power seats (if you have a sensitive back, this is helpful)

Back up camera (I like it -- its peace of mind when backing out of tight places)

Lift (really depends on your parking situation -- in normal driving, it's not needed, but if you have a big curb or steep parking area, you may need it)

    Navigation

    Front sensors

Sports Exhaust (no difference in sound -- it's only the color)

would definitely do sensors plus camera....CF led steering wheel and upper CF zone is the way to go...i like the full electric seats because it gives me more lateral support, but think the racing seats with Daytona inserts are very smart looking...i have a white car with diamond finish which is not as "bad boy" as the black...went with yellow calipers to pick up the yellow in the shields....definitely carbon b pillar and leather headliner...imho

Just finished speccing my car and due to get delivery late June, fantastically excited

    The final decision was

    Standard white
    Black leather
Sports seats with silver stitching, incl prancing horses
    Sports pack carbon
    Black rev counter
Front and rear reversing (not camera, though touch and go)
    Grigio forged rims
    Yellow calipers plus shields
    Carbon rear bumper moulding
    Sports sill cover
Finally, last but not least, a black stripe (bit like a Scuderia stripe but thinner), across the top of the car.

The last bit is highly individual I know but IMHO will make the car stand out from the crowd

So many thanks again for your collective advice, four months and counting.....

    congratulations, stuart.
    you nailed it!
i would have included the "sport exhaust" option (exhaust tips are black instead of silver)

You're dead right about the sports exhaust, I have ordered it, just forgot to include it in my list. Included sat nav too (hard to believe its not a standard item)

You can still change the options if the factory hasn't built it yet. I did it in 2012. Satnav is too expensive and useless as the screen is too small. Get a $300 satnav from Bestbuy, will do the job better.
I think the must have are :
    - Suspension lifter.
    - Carbon Fibre interior (driver zone, dash, and tunnel).
    - Parking sensor.
    - Optional wheels.

My spec is similar but in argento (big risk that paid). Parking sensors are the last option I would let go (London underground parking at my flat)

The parking sensors were the first item on the sheet!
Those underground car parks can be hard work
    Have fun with yours

Mine has sat/nav but it is a $5k option. You can get a Garmin unit for only $500 and move it from car to car. Also has pedestrian mode when walking about. One of the best features is the Garmin shows you the speed limit on all but neighborhood roads and shows whether you are going over the speed limit (your speed is red if you are). Since I am a geezer and have trouble remembering what the speed limit is, this is very handy.

I have not used the Fcar Sat/Nav yet so really can't comment on how user friendly it is. I do notice that it shows the street I am on vs Garmin which always shows the next street or intersection I am coming up to. Porsche Sat/Nav is like the Garmin. Hope there is an option on the Fcar to fix this.

I picked up my new spider yesterday and have driven it one whole day. So the comments below are based that limited experience:

Parking camera - frankly a little disappointed . It appears the angle of the camera is more tangent to the rear surface and as a result provides a "lengthened" view. Maybe I will adjust to this but my other cars rear camera provides more clarity and a better angle

Parking sensors, front and rear - even driving just one day I have used both. If for no other reason than to learn the tolerances of the car while you are adjusting to the new ride I think they are worth the investment

Cruise control - used it twice just to make sure it works. Not a bad option, I can see getting a lot of use when I am driving in the areas where to local"authorities" like to ticket

Racing seats and CF package - best decision I made on all of the options. The seats feel fantastic and, IMHO, really add to the interior looks. The CF really dresses up the interior from the standard flat metallic appearance.

Extracampario options - I ordered the stitched Cavalino's and the lower dash in a different color. The stitched cavalino's now cost $2450 but they are worth it. Also, the lower dash in a different color provides a nice contrast to an all black look, at least for my car. When you add the stitched seats to the above the interior really stands out.

I speced yellow calipers on a red car - I like how the calipers bring out the color in the shields and the wheel caps

I did not get the upgraded stereo but frankly have not listened to the radio yet. I stayed with the standard roof liner and it is not that bad.

So there you have it. Hopefully this will help.

    Thanks for the recent posts

The satnav is a tricky one. It also includes Bluetooth which is becoming more and more necessary for phone calls in the UK. I'm going to stick with it

The camera I didn't go for, I've got an FF with camera and never found myself using it

Definitely agree with the sports seats and CF package, it really works with the black/silver stitching

Looked at upgraded stereo but rejected too. I can't imagine my untrained ear will know the difference with the top down at 90 mph 😝

Good to hear about the standard roofliner, I went back to that in the end

    Thanks again guys

You don't have to get satnav to have Bluetooth.
