I have about 30 or 40 cars to move. Thankfully, not going too far, just down the street. But I have no idea how go about this without risking accidentally breaking off little plastic bits from the cars. Should I pack them in cardboard boxes with those foam peanuts? Carry them one at a time, LOL? Anybody done this before?

Also, I have about a dozen 1/144 aircraft models to move. Those may have to be done one at a time as they are plastic throughout.

Any advice. Thank you in advance!

You didn't keep the original boxes?

Roll them in bath towels. Or bubble wrap. But you will break bits anyways. Buy some super glue from PeterS. :D

Thanks for the ideas. I've got some of the boxes but most had to be tossed (no room!). I think I'll try the bath towel method as it's soft. Bubble wrap might be a little trickier to do, with all those tiny mirrors sticking out. Yeah, I'm expecting some breakage, but hoping to keep damage to a minimum.

I've kept all my Exoto boxes for exactly that reason... Many of the Mattel boxes were sh*tcanned, though, and fortunately none broke. My Kyosho 308 lost a mirror, and my BB512i lost a front tire (glued it back on, though).

It's not the packaging or wrapping that will break them, it's the jarring of the stacked boxes as your moving van goes down the road. If you hand-carry the box(es) or transport it in your car, your models should be fine...

    Best of luck!

Simple idea...get yourself enough of the plastic shoebox size containers from Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Target. Put a few packing peanuts in the bottom, put the car in, fill it the rest of the way with packing peanuts the tape the lid on. That is how I transport mine when I take them to shows and such and I have never had any breakage. Even with 100+ miles of driving to and from.

The boxes run about a buck a piece and can be used over and over and over again.

I have more transport mileage! :D My AutoArt Miura SV did a Montreal-Shangai-Montreal! Bubble wrapped (granted there are no mirrors sticking out) and in a towel ... car was just fine. :)

If you have any cheapies just pack those and carry the good ones. You know if you try to pack all of them, something is bound to break.

I had to move some of my models from Montreal to Jerusalem. I wrapped them in t-shirts, then put them (two or three together) in shoe boxes. Unfortunately in flight with the suitcase they were in tossed around, some of the parts broke off :-(
I lost a windshield wiper off my Kyosho 365 Daytona. On a HW 550 Barchetta, a wheel was easily reattached, and the role hoops snapped off. I could put the hoops back on easy enough with some superglue, but frankly, I think it looks better without.
Not sure what I'll do differently to bring the rest over, though.

Bubble wrap. The bigger the bubbles, the better. Wrap them loosely, not tightly. Recently moved a dozen from my office to my house and had no breakage. They'll be fine if you're careful.

OK, folks here's the update. The move went quite well. Only lost two (easily regluable) parts. I put down a layer of buble wrap in my trunk and lined up about 6 or 7 cars on the bubbles. I staggered each one so if they did roll, it wouldn't collide so easily with another car.

So thanks for the suggestions. It was quite helpful.

Here are some pics of the collection, or at least most of it. They were taken just before the actual move. I had them put on the table so I could clean them.
