I am considering adding one to my car bunch. the one I am considering would be 750 hp with a racing suspension and done by the Carol Shelby company in Las Vegas.

My question is "are they good sport cars compared to other super and exotic cars? Does anyone have experience or own one of these? If so how does it perform compared to something you are familiar with?

They are so rare it is impossible to find someone to talk to with experience.

    Thank you.

I never ended up buying one. I did a WHOLE HELL OF ALOT of research on the car. I commited then the next morning when I woke up, I realized I really don't need the car, so i sent my SRT-8 to the shop and spent crazy money on it the next day. Remember it is a suopped up mustang any way you look at it!!!!! I love the car, and if I can find a red '08 '09 for $55 - 65,000. I might be interested, but I wouldn't pay anymore than that. A year ago I was buying a black one '09 for $72,000 or something like that. The guy wanted out. It was in Wisconsin. Are you looking for a new or used. What have you ran across so far? I'll try to find my thread...

They are a blast to drive, but in no way compare to a super or exotic car in most performance aspects(they do accelerate strong!) or the overall driving experience. I've driven one on the track and it was entertaining. They have worked wonders with the Mustang platform. It accelerates well, corners and stops competently, just don't expect it to run with a 430 around a road course-it won't. Still a hoot, though and they look menacing.
Take a trip to Vegas. The Shelby folks in Vegas have always been more than accommodating with prospective buyers

Honestly, if you are looking for the most supercar like driving Mustang, look in to the 2008 GT500 KR's. If they aren't enough power for you, there is a robust aftermarket.

I've got a friend with both a Shelby GT500 Super Snake, and a GT500 KR. The super snake roasts it's tires, and sounds excellent, but the KR is that much of a better driver. Definitely better for track use too.

The KR is an actual Shelby American VIN car; and not a Ford from a manufacturing perspective. Also, far more limited #'s, and it will hold it's value because of that true separation.

    Thank you for your replys.

I should have mentioned that I am thinking of trading a Roush P51A mustang.

I drove a 2011 Ford 500 Gt and found it lacking in power and handling. I then frove a mustang that was ford but modified by Shelby in Las Vegas. It was a 2008 but was fairly good in handling but low in hp at 316 hp. It had the styling cues I like.

I thought the aupersnake at 750 hp and a racing setup would be an exciting car. I need to nose around some more.

The cost element that was mentioned is a great point. The super snake quoted me was $90 grand plus taxes and $2000 for shipping. I am looking for a new car thrill. not buying a new car thrill but the driving excitement of another car type.

I own a F430 and do not expect it to handle as well but I hoped it would have more gut grabing torque and speed.

A stock GT500 is slow. If you take a stock car and do a 2.6 metco, catback exhaust, airbox, and tune you will put down 540whp which is about 620 crank hp as the magazines rate them. THe car is pretty fast with 540whp, first gear from a low roll is spin city. If thats not enough add a Kenne Bell or a Whipple and put down 700whp on pump gas. Griggs makes awesome suspension for these cars. I belive the KR has a 3.4 whipple you could with a pulley and tune make that car ALOT faster.

The intake is different, and a slightly different tune to put out the same 540 hp that the 2011's make. The main differences are in the tires, suspension, and hood. The whole package when it was released out lapped a Mini Works S on a tight handling track by one of the auto rags.

It still has a normal roots type blower.

Nice cars but you can forget about it holding its value. Anything past 1972 will flatline from now to eternity. 60 and 70's represents an era in time. The here and now will not be remembered whatsoever other than a country in shame. Its too bad
