I post this as I have just fallen on it by accident and it's a useful tip for those like me that skip alot of the manual... Maybe many of you already know this, but I didn't... Anyway my 'tip' for today is I you want to mute the stereo quickly say when sudden accelerating or whatever then simply keeping your finger on the down volume control on the back of the steering wheel for approx 1 or so secs mutes the stereo, just press again to bring it back
Chuffed I have found this as always frustrated not to have had a fast mute on previous cars, when I had a BMW m6 etc I used to programme the star button on the wheel for mute , works well, nice that Ferrari have added a quick mute function.
Please no ' well I never have the stereo on, I always listen to the engine' type posts, we get that, but good music goes with driving period ... The quick press on/off is a godsend

Guess I'm the only one just pressing the small/thin button on the right panel then ?

Sorry bad info. Went back to try this and it appears that it doesn't work. Quite possible I'm just losing my mind.

Yeah I thought that wasn't right but was saving my response for when I go out in the car to check it. Thought middle button was voice control ?

I usually mute all the time as I am quite disappointed with the sound in the car (not with the sound of the engine though!).
I have the standard speakers but this is supposed to be a luxury car and should therefore have a better sound system. The biggest miss is that there are no tweeters up front and the bass is non existant. The Bose system in my Quattroporte is fantastic. A Ferrari should have something even better.
Keep pushing that mute button and shift the Manettino to Race instead!

I don't disagree that for the money the stereo should be better.

On the other side of the coin, so to speak:) The upgraded stereo has electrostatic panel speakers and a multi-channel HiRes head unit. When you feed it DVD Audio it sounds pretty darn good, but I listen to all my music with electrostats and HiRes music. The rub is you do have to pay $5K for the upgraded stereo. My guess is they put it in for people that want HiRes source material for their 458, like Lexus has done on their high-end stereo options. My LS460 had a decent system that played MCH HiRes but it did not have electrostats.

I guess if you don't want HiRes tunes then the base stereo should be good enough, again that is probably Ferraris logic or maybe they just don't care:), but YMMV and that is only my opinion.

I am a MCH and electostatic addict, so for me there was no other option:)
