After much looking (and frustration), I decided to "build" my own 1:18 display case.
Nice ones on the internet can be way over $1000.
I wanted it to kind of match what I already have in the room (Room and Board furniture), and I did not want to spend a bunch.

so I bought a 5 shelf unit at Lowes for $65.00. It is particle board with a laminate that is almost identical to my current furnature in the room.

gotta have glass doors to keep out the dust, right?
I figured glass would be too heavy to support on hinges anchored into particle board, so I bought acrylic sheets again at Lowes, they were about $80 total, as I had to buy 2 to fit the configuration of the shelving unit, maximizing car space with having a supporting shelf somwhere near the middle.

From Rockler.com, I bought some hinges (total under $10).
Also bought some accessories... some magnetic striking things, etc... none that I like so far.

Took a little Jerry rigging, as the hinges needed to be "propped up", but the doors hung nice and even, without any drama.

Had glass cut (3/16"), 5 shelves (one back up) ground on the edges, about $110

    Put it all together.
i think it turned out pretty nice, all things considered. I do not consider myself really that handy.
Still trying to work out some sort of internal lighting. It is pretty tight in there. A long fluorescent fixture along the top does not project well down to the bottom 2 shelves of cars. Putting an additional one on the last car shelf is not an option. So, I'm still looking.
Also, the acrylic doors have a slight "bow" to them, but not that noticable.

Total cost is about $270, plus many hours of looking for the right parts, trips to Lowes, etc.

    All in all, I'm pleased.
But, I wish there was room for more cars (yes, there will be more!).
Next go around, I will have a friend build me one... now he is handy! But, lives many states away!

nice work! With the exception of the Lambos, we have an almost identical display setup.

Mine has since changed from this pic, but the orfer of the cars is pretty much the same - older models together, modern middies in the middle, modern fronts together, and the supercars together.
Post pics if you ever get the lighting done.
