Good day Rich, I can certainly feel your pain and empathize, as I had a similar experience with my old GT4 many years ago. In my case, I was driving at highway speeds when my valve head broke and it caused a lot of damage.. pistons, liners, and cylinder head valve seats, etc. A very sad day... That said, the result of this was the creation of an interesting conversation piece that now exists as a desk paper weight. On a positive note, everything is rebuildable and repairable and mine was no different. After the rebuild the car ran like a Swiss Clock. Update - I will be rebuilding the motor with upgraded pistons, cams, exhaust to make it more performance oriented while keeping it a "208". One consideration I haven't vocalized to the shop yet - is there any merit to considering swapping out the 4 carbs for EFI? I mean if I'm going this far (OOOPHH if only you saw the bill for this job!) maybe I just go full in on EFI? Thoughts?
Carbs are THE characteristics of older 70 s F cars .Huge part of the charm .Actually more powerful the way Ferrari did it compared to others ( BMW / Merc ) back in the day .That’s why Ferrari were the last to adopt fuel injection .Aside it’s was Bosch mass air flow type , not EFI . It’s the simplicity of carbs the analogue nature , the as easy as a wheel borrow, that’s the attraction . Not a ECU in sight . It needs for residual value pov to look as much OEM as possible to the tiniest detail . Obviously you can’t see the valves or cams . From a performance pov I just accept it for what it is ( fellow 208 owner ) , it’s not for kicks i have two modern Porsche for that . It’s not the slowest car in my stable .Blue one has 46 Hp .
