I was bored so I took some pic of my 1/18 and 1/64 288GTO's. Sorry for the quality of some pic. I've notice that bigger doesn't always guarantee better, as I find the wheels on 1/64 is better. Besides, the square headlights are also marginally more realistic than its bigger counterpart. Lastly, the paint is on both models is of more or less of the same quality. Is that a Hot Wheels 1:43? I just picked up an IXO 1:43 288GTO and it's reasonably good...I know the BBR 288 is supposed to be amazing but of course the price is much higher. I like my Elite 1:18 288GTO but I do wonder about the deep dish rear wheels (a little too deep I think).
In terms of handbuilts, the MakeUp GTO is much, much better than the BBR version. And a little less expensive as well.
Where did you get the 1/43 or the 1/64? I have the 288 GTO elite but I always want a smaller scale but i never found one
This is the HW that you are talking about? http://cgi.ebay.com/1-43-scale-Ferrari-288-GTO-by-HotWheels-in-sealed-box_W0QQitemZ160074080349QQihZ006QQcategoryZ224QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I have been collecting diecast for 40 years and like the Elite GTO very much. The wheels are a little off, but they pulled it off reasonably well. The Elite's are getting better and better. The new 599 in silver is great, and the 430 challenge car is unbelievable. Some of the manufacturers just capture certain cars better then others. I have a real 79 308 GTB and am very disappointed in the Kyosho version. The detail is good, but the shape of the body is way off. All of Kyosho's other cars are pretty good though. I have around 10 others. The euro Daytona coupe is very good and the Daytona Competition is spectacular. I can't wait until the other comp versions come out. Just my .02
Yes indeed it is a HW 1/43 and it also says IXO on the red box. And totally agreed with you that the price of BBR is kinda steep. Hey, never noticed the rear rims are that deep, well spotted. Second to that. It is a 1/43 GTO and picked it up in 2 places: 1 in Dusseldorf in Germany and 1 in Hong Kong in Asia. I'd guess they are too far from you. Merci, pour votre remarques
When I was at Penske-Wynn last month I was going to buy a 288 model in 1/18th scale but the quality seemed real iffy. How are yours holding up?
Prices for the 1/43 and 1/18 are acceptable. As with details and finish both are fairly acceptable. Since there aren't many who manufacture 288GTO to the market (for a reasonable price and scale). So I take some compromise and above all if one really likes something money is not [really] an object. I mean if I really can afford a 1/1 one (3 mil I believe) I'd definitely go for it. But until then I will stick to his smaller scaled brothers and collect as many as I can.
Owning the 1:1, 1:18, 1:24, 1:64 scale models I can state the maintenance is a bit steep on the 1:1 scale compared to the others. I'm not sure what currency you're in when you stated 3 million, but $450K - $500K USD will do the trick for a 1:1 scale model. Steve
Thx Steve for pointing out the correct price. It was meant to be 450K-500K USD converted that is, 3 Mil is HKD (Hongkong Dollar), as far as I know there is only 1 on this ex-English enclave at the moment. Hopefully I can add a 1:1 as the second one to this list....
I don't know how many of you know this but Herpa from Germany makes a realy nice 288 GTO in 1:43.The weird part is that unlike their other 1:43 Ferrari models (made from plastic and with all panels opening) it is made of diecast (it is pretty heavy) and has no opening parts.I picked it up on a diecast swap meet for something like $40-$50.I can easily rival BBR but it comes in somewhat crappy box.And just FYI I believe Michelle Alboretto still has his 288 and Eddie Irvine had one but I believe he sold his.Just a fun fact to know.
I don't think Michelle (spelling?) still owns his. Unless, of course, you really can take it with you. Steve
ok I messed up the spelling and even if the guy is not around anymore I believe he had his to the end. Anyhow, I have a couple of 1:18 scale Joueff 288 GTO Evolucione's.T hey are extremely rare but their detail and quality is ridiculous. So, I decided to butcher one of them, together with a Bburago F40 and a 288 GTO in order to make a decent Evolucione. Right now it all looks like a pile of junk but as soon as things start taking shape I'll start posting pictures. Also any reference pics would be more than welcome. If possible, please, list serial numbers of the cars on the pics, so I don't end up with a model with interior from one car and engine from another. Thank you in advance.
