i bought a 1978 308gts in april of this year, it just left ( sold it ) a week ago. i want a boxer and a euro dry sump 308....... this will do for now!
the wheels are the stock 14 inch wheels. why the heck they have the black paint on them , i have no idea, but i am planning on taking the factory 14's off and putting on my 16's from my last Ferrari. i am planning on a set of shields and some pedals from our sponsor. thanks for the kind words! Michael

Congrats Michael...way to go! She's in excellent condition -- and it's rather rare to see a GTB too. I especially like the red piping on the seats - it adds a nice contrasting touch. Enjoy! :)

    Michael,

Beautiful car! Drive it in good health.

I think Ferrari of San Diego fit those painted wheels to their cars. See this old thread:

Michael, when you do the shields thing, unless you're going to have the fenders cut and recessed, consider half-thickness shields from Yoshi. I got a set for my car, and another set for display in my home and office and they're fantastic. He's not an FChat sponsor, but he is a Ferrari Club (FCA) sponsor. There's a link to his site at www.fca-se.com/sponsors

yes it is.... :( it has a very nice system in it, not that i plan on ever using it. i am unsure what exhaust is on the car at this time, but i am going to be on the hunt for a new or used performance muffler for the car.

Many thank You's for that post! i was told the same thing by a friend , and he STRONGLY advised i not change or sell the wheels. this car was sold new at FOSD and its been in california its whole life. a guy named Giseppi ( sp?) at Ferrari of Beverly Hills is supposed to have worked on the car for a long time. the car was bought new by the ( then) president of CBS, then a doctor had it.

That is a strange wheel treatment.........CONGRATS padner!!!

Those are newer style seats as well, not '76 -'77, but at least you got it before they painted the front fender louvers black and put a rear roof spoiler on!

The rest of that stuff can come with time!!!

Keep us updated...we want quantitative data on the Pick Up Factor of Red vs. other colors! LOL!

    Michael,

I agree. Don't refinish the wheels. They look great that way.

Reading that old thread, I see I never posted that ad as I promised Steve. I'll look for that Road & Track tonight and post it tomorrow.

i *think* the front fender louvers are supposed to be black on the older carb cars. seeing them in body color is a clear indication the car has had paint work. service records show this car had a bare metal repaint several years ago, and has NO RUST , no stories or accident history ( i did my homework on this one !) also, i like the louvers in body color, and i am not a fan of the rear wing spoiler. i looked VERY VERY hard to find a GTB like this, if it was a euro dry sump, it would be * perfect* but i got this car cheap, so ill deal with it! thanks to all for all the nice comments.

    Michael,

Body-colored louvers are correct for the carbed GTBs and Ss.

Here's the Goodyear ad, as promised:

see i learn something new everytime i come here! :) thank you for posting the ads, and for the correction about the louvers. there was a thread about this not too long ago, but i did not pay too much attention as i am not the type that worries about " correct" and numbers matching stuff. i drive the crap out of all my cars. stuff breaks or wears out, so it gets replaced or repaired! now i am wondering why my wheel centers are not blacked out like some of the others we have seen pics of, maybe they only did the QV wheels that way???!!! it matters little anyway, as i have made the decison to find a set of Compomotive or HRE "288GTO" style wheels for the car. the 16's that i have and the original 14's are going to go to the attic for storage when i find the right wheels. i am going to wait and see what the car needs as far as servicing goes, before i buy a bunch of frivolous stuff. the individual air cleaners with the K&N filter from pierce manifolds are on the top of my " TO DO" list, as i a Pertronix or Crane x700 ignition system. I HATE POINTS !!!! :)

Contratulations! I was wondering how the GTB compares to your previous car? This one seem to be in a lot better shape. Performance, stiffness?

I hope you document the cars arrival as you did last time. I loved that thread as did many Fchaters......it was inspirational. I hope you have the time and energy to do it again!

Congratulations on the new GTB carreaper!
Thanks for posting that old GY ad! Notice that they took out the center caps? Did they not want to pay FNA royalties or something?
I actually had my black center FOSD wheels refinished this spring; they took to the refinishing without any issues. Here's a look at how they look today. The old thread shows them 2 years ago when I took delivery of the car.

Enjoy your beautiful GTB in good health.

    Best Regards,

    Steve
