Sorry if this is not the right location for this. I would like to sell my 308 to an Fchatter. If interested go to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4603425385 Sherpa23 and James at Norwood's of Dallas (fchat sponsor) know my car the best. I am testing the eBay waters. If Ferrari of Houston uses it I guess I can too. Best Regards, -Mike
Yea, I know. I'm tinkering around with that now. I did not want to hose it up and not be able to change it. Now I can play with editing. Good advice, thanks
You've got too many flaws pointed out about your car. It's OK to be honest about it, it's another to point out every single flaw. I know all those issues are minor (b/c I have a 308) but to a new buyer he may think, Ferrari, parts, labor 1000's of $$$$$....run away..... Also, e-bay has a tendancy to bring out the wanna' bee's, not the real buyers so good luck.
a very honest ad, mike. full disclosure is generally a good policy. it should elicit genuine responses. best of luck to you.
I think the write up is great. Nice and detailed. I think you will get some interest. At the starting bid of $20K that is great. I would buy it for $20K. Keep us posted.
For those who do not know, I know Sean personally...that said before replying. Sean, you are wrong. If I did not disclose what is wrong I am being a used car salesman thief and misleading the buyer. Additionally, I would be opening myself up to liabilty of non disclosure. I do not want to sell the car to a clueless buyer who thinks just because my car looks brand new that it is. It is a very small sale on the big scheme of things and I am not opening myself up to liability for something not worth the risk. Just because sales people do not disclose issues regularly does not mean it is right. I am looking for a specific buyer type. One who already has done his/her research on Ferraris, knows what makes an average/good/excellent car and what they are worth and has a general idea of how much maintenance will cost. That person will know that 24,500 is a very fair price. They could get it for less if nobody does the buy it now. Last but not least, the real reason why you are wrong because I am getting a huge response. Conversations are not revolving around car condition, they are around terms of sale. Need I say more? -Mike
I think it's a great looking car. and really a reasonable price for a QV. And I for one don't think honesty in the flaws of the car is a problem. If I was looking to buy at this point I'd be interested. Also-as you can tell my first post here. I've been lurking for about a week. brian
It is a sharp car, and the detail in the ad is a plus - seems like full disclosure. My only observation is that if I were selling I would have had the intake re-powdercoated. Not sure how much that costs, and it obviously doesn't affect the quality of the car, but it probably affects the PERCEIVED quality. Best of luck in selling...
Mike, I wasn't suggesting you lie about the car. It just seemed that the description on e-bay seemed to dwell on the negative. Spend more time pointing out the positives. That's all. Wasn't trying to suggest you be a used car salesmen. Sorry, I didn't word my post correctly.
One more thing I can't help laugh about, if you weren't a regular f-chat user and someone else posted this link, most of the posters on here would have criticized your car down to $18,000 by now. Here, I'll show you (turn up your sarcasm meter). Poster 1 - Check out this car, good buy? Poster 2 - 86,000 miles is a lot of miles. You can find something with less miles for just a little more money, I'd pass. Poster 3 - it's not a stock radio and it doesn't work. Electrical problems in one area likely means you'll need to replace every wire in the car and you'll have to ship it to Italy for that. That's $8,000 right there. Poster 4 - 86,000, minimum needs belts at an authorized dealer, that's $5000. New AC system is another $2000. If you can get this dreamer below $20,000, it might, MIGHT be worth it. Poster 5 - chips in the paint. You'd better figure on a bare metal respray with the new bullet proof, 8-part carbon fiber re-inforced paint at $10,000...and that's just the paint. Excelzior Z - that car is worth $50,000, minimum!
You never mentioned the fact that I would be staunchly critisized for taking off those gold BBS rims it had on it when I bought it. Clearly, I do not watch pimp my ride enough. I still cringe when I look at the old photos of the car with those on it. Right after I bought them work went nuts for a long time and I could not get them installed...the new rims just sat there and mocked me for the entire time until I could get them installed.
Sold 22k Car is going back to Atlanta where it was originally sold, I hope the new owner gets to meet the original owner.
Congrats on the sale - though I would bet you would have gotten your original $24.5K price within a day or two. QV GTBs don't pop up every day - certainly not many black on black! Heck, if it hadn't had the shields, I would have taken it at $22k
Well, when I bought it I only paid 24k for it. Granted, it had some BBS rims on it that I do not really like. I asked 24.5 to get my original back and 500 or the rims. 2500 down and I enjoyed a Ferrari for almost exactly 2 years, yup - I got my money's worth. This car was also a litmus test on Ferraris in general. I did not want to buy a 60k+ car only to find out they are total junk and the owners are pompous nuggets. I found the opposite to be the case. The owners are extremely normal, have similar likes as I do and go out of their way to help each other. Also learned that the engineering is what I expected, no less, no more. Dinner time...the wife calls (she lets me own Ferraris...I listen ) -Mike
Also, if I had not had to take a loan on the car (had cash on hand) I am positive I could have gotten the car for 22k 2 years ago. I followed it for over a year while the owner tried to sell it for 30-32k.
your QV is a great car. if i was not in Lambo mode right now i would have bought it from you. its just that the Jalpa is so much more car than a 308. ill get another ferrari this year me thinks.
Congrats on the sale, Mike. I hope everything works out for the best. I just found out the contracts I was discussing with you will not drawn up for another 2 weeks. I spoke to cousin last night about that deal we've been working on for the last 5 months. That still doesnt give me an idea when or how much the signing bonus will be. This whole ordeal has been a toll on my hopes of purchasing your classic GTB. My car is still out there & if this board has taught me anything, I might be looking for another 6 months or more until the next one comes around. Thanks again for all your help.
I would have to rate the way the transaction is going an 8 out of 10. Buyer got me the deposit in the 72 hour window but sent US Postal money orders instead of Bank of America certified checks like I asked. Ever cashed $2200 in checks at a post office? Such a secure location. Can't carry your firearm in there if you have a CHL. Had to modify the terms of the agreed contract slightly to meet a need. I did not want an all cash payment (he did). All these nice New Orleanians in Houston make me a tad careful. They'd shoot and stuff me for far less then what the balance is He is coming to Houston to pick up the car tomorrow and will drive it back to near Atlanta, GA (12 hour or so drive...less if he brings a radar detector). He seems to be a really nice guy, I have asked him to join Fchat. His name is Thomas and is in Dallas, GA.
