Preface: Special and sincere thanks goes out to Kris, an FChat member who took the time to make two round trips to my house (125 miles away) and worked like a dog for four days to put this car back together from boxes and boxes of parts. Kris is a young kid who is one of the brightest mechanics I have had the opprtunity to meet. There was NOTHING about assembling the gearbox, gears, clutch, carbs, etc. that he did not know about or fully understand. On a Bible, I swear that if you are in the SF Bay Area and need service on your Ferrari, he is the man! Feed and pay him well, and I am sure he will drive to your door! If interested, please send him an email. His screen name is GTO84. You will NOT be dissapointed! Anyway, to continue: Just about everyone on this forum has known about all of the hell I have been through over the last 14 months in regard to getting this car back on the road because it was in need of a simple gearbox rebuild that should have taken four weeks, max. Well, I am thankful to say that my '77 Euro 308 is back in action! In the last 14 months, I have learned patience that I never knew I had. I also learned how NOT to do business with certain mechanics. All in all, I made a new friend, Kris, which I believe was worth the entire ordeal!.........Please enjoy the pics. It feels so good to drive this baby again! Because the car was at my home garage for six months, I had a chance to detail and paint the entire engine bay. You can eat off of any part of the bay and engine. Also, I had the seats and door panels reupholstered with a very soft leather that came out very well. The powder-coated valve and belt covers came out good, especially after I filed the raised lines, lettering and numbers down to the metal, exposing the silver......I'm just a happy camper! i want a red/ black 308 now that I see yours. I hope you do not have anymore problems. you've had enough. good luck! john
The gearbox rebuild was actually completed by Pete's Gearshop in Hayward,CA. (Kris did the assembly of the gearbox in my car and the external gear bank) AWESOME guy! Call Pete, the owner at (925) 537-9446. Worth every penny to ship it to this shop. Pete will buy new or used parts. He purchased a used 4th-5th gear for mine and inspected it well (for past heat abuse) and he bought new Syncro's from the dealer. You can buy the parts on your own and just ship everything to him. He really knows his stuff and will not rip you off.
Thank you for your great hospitality, Peter, I had a great time working on this project, and feel extremely satisfied with our results. I am currently available to work on your car. If a road leads to your house, I can get there. Email or PM me. Kris
Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success. -Henry Ford You guys *weeps* proved that.
I made up a few of these cup holders out of Paduk and have a few left. The holes are not cut so whomever I send them to can have the holes cut out per their liking. I need to drop by the Ford dealer and get the plastic inserts for soda cans. If anyone would like one, I have five or six in my shop. I'll UPS Ground one to you within the US. Send me an email at [email protected]......I really like mine!
