Straps came out great!
I was super stoked at the result. The store that did them is legit Italian. The owner, the materials, and the products they make and sell in their store. All Italian. They even have an old Moto Guzzi sitting out front of their shop. The woman that called me to let me know it was ready was so excited because she knew it was going into an Italian car. It was supposed to be done on a Saturday but she didn't work that day, so she made sure it got done early so that I could come in while she was there lol It was a really awesome experience. Updating for posterity. Some day, I'll be selling this car, so want to be able to show all the work I've done... I tend to forget things LOL. What is there to update? well... - Not sure if I posted or not, but new brake rotors all the way around. I used Brembo, not "Ferrari", so saved a ton of money. I don't care that the hats aren't black. - I finally got my exhaust manifolds removed (much easier than expected with a bit of extra prep) and repaired. GOOD THING, as the substrate on the passenger side was on it's way out. It was deteriorating on the exhaust side, not the engine side.. but it was a matter of time. The install begins tomorrow! - I had a crack in one of the air tubes on the exh mani, which is what started AAAALLL of this LOL. The crack has been repaired. - I verified with Ferrari that the campaign to replace my variators was completed in 2005. Awesome. - I'm in the middle of doing new timing belts, tensioners (including the upgraded hydraulic unit), and accessory belts. They should be done in about two weeks (delay on parts - my fault). Current belts look great, but I do not know when they were done last. One of the tensioners looks really old, so it all has to go. - New 430 trans mount installed. R&R was SO much easier than expected once I realized why so many people have problems and avoided them myself LOL. - Passenger seatbelt refurbished (wasn't retracting completely). - Currently installing new engine mounts. SUPER easy to do once exh. manis are off, so may as well. - I found a couple cracks in the shielding of my exhaust muffler. With it being hard-mounted to the car and only attached with two, thin brackets, I guess it's to be expected. I'm not paying $800 for a set of bolts with springs, so I'll just have to manage and/or get creative to keep it from happening again (Not expected. I am sure it was due to the movement in the engine/trans mounts). - New A/C compressor installed. I'm holding onto the OEM one as it *may* have not been the problem. I thought it was leaking oil and not working, seeing how I had zero A/C. New drier is also installed. We'll see how it does once I get it vacuum tested and recharged. - Wheels should be refinished soon. I'll start that project once the car is up and running. - I finally have speakers for the stereo. They will be installed soon. Hopefully the tweeters work with the OEM mounting pieces. -Small detail, but inspection plate for the clutch assembly came in and will be replaced. The old one was broken and the screws stripped (of course). - Now that I have the front and rear undertrays in my possession, I'll be sourcing hardware. Looks like a nylon fender washer will be needed for most of the mounting bolts. I haven't seen OEM hardware, so will use whatever works properly. - I finally got the weird bolt-on "aero" piece out of the rear diffuser. Ferrari carefully engineered the aero on this car and I don't like it messed with. - I had rattles in both doors and movement in the panels. I found the brackets under the interior handles weren't bolted up. I also found the "hooks" on the door panels that let it hang on the door were too loose. I removed and re-shaped them. Now the doors sound as solid as they did when they were new. - All new hardware, gaskets, and seals related to all parts that have been R&Red. FYI: the nuts for the bolts that connect the exh manis to the cats are $20ea. Dang. LOL. Before long, I'm going to have a brand new car! Slowly, but surely the restoration is coming along. My solution to Capristo's $800 exhaust mounting setup. I found one of the mounts cracking and separating away from the muffler. On the other side, the outer heat shield was cracked and tearing away. Plus the afore-mentioned air tube crack. Also, the tack welds on the heat shield of one of the catalytic converters broke so the shield was loose. All fixed. I'm thinking this should help reduce vibration transmitted to the system. Hopefully will allow just enough articulation to avoid anything else cracking. All for less than $10 lol Image Unavailable, Please Login
