Hello, I just purchased a 2004 360 and after a few days the fob died. I sent my Immobilizer to get programmed to new fobs and when I got it back the car will not start now. The alarm works fine and seems to be disengaged.

One question I have is when I turn the key the dash lights up all normal. I do see a warning that the gas cap is opened but it is not. Will that stop the car from cranking?

Why was the immobilizer reprogrammed? Is it an F1 car? Does it crank, but not start? How long has the car been off the road? Is the alarm LED light extinguished?

I doubt the gas cap would stop the car from starting, but just in case, is the microswitch easy to remove? If you disconnect it, that may produce a cap closed indication. Looks like it's held in with one screw. Try exercising the switch to see if the light goes out.

Check the output from behind the rear seat. If the relay isn’t engaging by then it’s the immobilizer. If it’s giving electricity check the connection at the starter.

Unlike the 355, the 360 ECU will be married to a specific Fob ID VIN. If you send off the immo to get it programmed to a new Fob (and therefore a new fob ID), you also have to virginize the ECU and then it will marry up to the new Fob ID.

Silly question.... is it in neutral when you turn the key to crank it?

On an F1 car (if it is an F1 car), I don't think the immobiliser will stop the car cranking.

The immobilizer will allow the car to turn over but not allow the engine to start.

Only the F1 TCU can inhibit cranking. Well, that and faulty relays/power. You can remove the F1 TCU inhibit by shorting out pin "2" on plug 8H to ground (earth) behind the driver. See photograph in this thread:

It should also start if you jump pins 2 & 3 (but that puts the immobiliser into the circuit like it does on an OEM gated car). If you bypass the F1 TCU make sure you are in neutral or the back wheels are off the ground.

If the engine still doesn't crank, you have a start relay/wiring issue. If it does crank, you have an F1 issue.

If you have an OEM charger plugged in and turned on, unplug it. That will inhibit cranking.

Just to clarify, the immobiliser on an 360 F1 has no input into the cranking/starter circuit. The Immobiliser doesn't give permission or inhibition to the cranking circuits.

All I can tell you is that if the immobilizer is not turned off via the fob, the car will crank over but not start.

What's odd is my car won't crank if the immobilizer isn't deactivated. I have a gated 360.

The immobilizer was sent by a previous owner to ECU Doctor to deactivate the immobilizer. My system may be different than normal.

Interesting. Maybe immobiliser deactivation just involves the Motronic ECU side of the immobiliser. If it bothers you, to disable the starter inhibit on your car, you could just do what @imahorse (and others) did with his 360. i.e. install a grounding wire on plug 8H instead of a jumper wire.
