Everyone, don't get too concerned that Mitch didn't put a reserve on the car. eBay auto sales are NOT binding contracts. The following is directly from eBay's "Non-binding bid policy:"

A non-binding bid is a bid that shows a buyer's interest in purchasing an item, but it doesn't create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller.

All bids made in the Real Estate and eBay Motors vehicles categories are considered non-binding.

ebay great way to advertise....get your car OUT THERE... and make deal directly after auction ends......guessing 90%+ ebay car auctions intended and end this way. Mitch will not be compelled to sell at highest bid w/c will be significantly below his desired price.

Bring A Trailer (BaT) auction another story..car WILL BE sold unless reserve clearly noted.

You could be right, but prudence dictates ending the auction "because of an error in the listing."

There is no reserve posted nor a buy it now. The car has to hit $175,000 before it sells that is not seen.

I just looked at the eBay listing. There is no reserve or buy it now, as you say. But as far as I know, there is no such thing as a reserve ($175,000 in this case) that is "not seen." I'm not an eBay expert but I think the auction as set up as of now will sell the car to the high bidder at the end of the auction.

I would urge you to cancel the auction and relist it with 15 or more high resolution photos in proper lighting from all angles plus a detailed discussion of the restoration and history of the car, all in proper English. I think that's more likely to reach the audience you're after. Looks like a very nice restoration based on the interior shots. Better still, consign it to a Ferrari specialist.

Best of luck with the sale.

Good Lord, dig the eBay Bidder with 1150 (at this time) feedbacks--talk about a silly way to bid. Weird-wonder if that's Mitchell's dealer. Hope it goes well for you :).

If you click "Show automatic bids" you see that there is an auto-bidder in the mix bumping it up $100 each time your guy bids.

"Winning Bid" (per eBay) was $70,100.00. Mitchell, hope you feel it went well for you (this is meant genuinely).

Yes, I understand that. I'm speaking of a bidder who slavishly increases his own bid by $100 increments, rather than using automatic bidding himself. It seems very amateurish to me. What advantage is there to a bidder who does this? I really can't see any reason why this manual-$100-at-a-time has an advantage. Perhaps there is one--what?

Agreed, a little odd. Would have been more efficient to auto bid himself.

All you guys were right. I ended up with a sold car. Even after talking to e bay on the phone and assured that the buy it now was $175.000. They now deny talking about the subject. 😡 I cancelled the auction and contacted the buyer. Now waiting to hear. If he does not respond in ten days EBay will allow me to relist. I ok with that. The car is listed in Europe and in 'Ferrari
Market Newsletter'. No rush. In the meantime the 'Bitter' SC arrived today. So look out PUNS😳😊

Lots of people noticed the ad was inconsistent with Mitchell's intent, but eBay assured him it was correctly listed - at the end it turned out not to be... Now Mitchell needs to try explain it to a (disappointed) "buyer"...

The lesson is to not trust *any* conversations with eBay personnel, just what the computer screen shows you. Hard-learned lesson. Fortunately Bundas has a way out. All eBay bidding is 'non-binding' bidding. A Buyer or Seller cannot be forced to complete a transaction.
