Besides being a massive gear-petrol-head, I also have enjoyed a long hobby in scale model cars. I use to do quite a few contest/local client models when younger, but have had a long break since then, until last year & now getting back into things again.
These are a couple of my current builds, mostly scratch built, I work primarily 1/24 scale, but not strictly, finishing now this Lamborghini Miura SV & more scratch builds to follow ....then I have several Ferrari projects to follow after that!
    Enjoy!
    :)

This first is a kit I bought for $5!
Seriously, was on a clearance table, and I grabbed it up, is a motorized Lamborghini Jota Airfix kit, and I decided to see how far I could take it, with minimal investment ($), no 3D printing, no photo-etched metal parts, just all hand fashioned

First the body was deconstructed, and modified back to SV spec
The chassis was almost entirely scratch built, and the underbody built up
After that the interior was constructed, most components scratch built, or heavily modified
Then the drive train had to be 100% scratch built, as there was none in this kit, so starting with the most visible items (valve covers) I then built the entire engine & transaxle from stock, and detailing

Very nice work. You should post some of your 1/24th Vector shots in this thread also.

thanks guys, it's just a fun little project for myself in between others, a little bit old school, but for a $5 model I figured "what the heck!" :)

I actually started it a while ago, but got set aside until now for other projects, so am finishing it up now

Tommy, thanks man, the scratch built Vector is another story! ;)

WH, well, in this case I took the valve covers from a Tamiya Countach kit, and cast them (made duplicates), then I build the rest of the entire engine + transaxle from photos (most from the excellent Miura thread here on Fchat), scaled against the valve covers

The tires aren't quite right, so I might modify these and recast in resin?

Just working the primer layers & paint ready the body, so will post those pics next

    :)

What processes do you use? Do you cast the pieces? Carve them out of a bigger chunk of whatever material you're using?

it's a mixture of materials, polystyrene, brass, aluminum & some cast resin parts

the first is a master of the individual parts, since you can't cast it as a single piece & retain the quality
the second is, once the master pieces are done, is to cast them into the final material, and then paint & detail ...some parts are cast with metallic in them, so they come out looking like a cast aluminum material, some ore clear, etc

this is an example of a 1:12 scale F40 engine block master being built, it once finished will be recast in clear, so all the internal components can be visible ...that's a fun upcoming project too! :)

sometimes I can use existing model kit parts, in the case of a 1/24 scale scratch built Vecotr W2 project i'm building, the real engine uses a nascar based Donovan block engine, so I used heads from a nascar kit (and modified accordingly for more detail) then scrath built the engine block, timing cover, water pump, pulley system + accessories, and the TH425 transaxle too, around those first two items ...these are masters also, to be later recast in resin, to make it a kit for others to be able & assemble

    :)

Great work! I love the idea of transforming a cheap model into something special. Can't wait to see the final stages.
