18 months ago I bought a 308 from a friend that a member here had sold to him. Dave is the member, I'll add a link to one of his threads on this car when he owned it. Dave hasn't logged in since 2023 and he didn't respond to a PM I sent him when I first received the car.

We can start with his thread. If anyone know more of the car's history feel free to chime in.

The plan is to just have fun and not think much about resale. I sold most of the interior pieces I wasn't going to use, saw no point in keeping a pile of parts. The first step was to continue the weight reduction plan and simplify the interior but not to the point of being a racecar inside. I like the stock dash (for now) and headliner, I may go group 4 there at some point.

The loose interior was put in the car for shipping and one seat was bolted in. This is the stage it was at when it arrived. The floor had an insulation glued on it with a foil top. It covered the floor entirely so I had to remove that first which wasn't fun.

After that I sanded the sills down and smoothed them out with the intention of painting them rather than carpet, I decided I should cover them with something a little more durable to shoe scuffs.

Dynamat or a copy. I very cleverly added that to my car when I first got it and now very much wish I hadn't but haven't wished hard enough to actually go remove it. Well done.

No this stuff was about a 1/2" thick and soft. No way to really glue the carpet to it so Im not sure what the plan was. I assume it was Dave that had done that.

Hey Paul, the sills you show in the past two pics, are those just from sanding and smoothing or did you use some sort of coating/primer?

Keep us posted on the progress!

I used an air sander and stripped it to the metal but both ends have a step where the fiberglass floor rests. I used filler to blend it then primed and painted it. Then decided I should protect it better.

Stock seatbelts because I don't like a racing harness in a street car, I had a set in my 79 BB and I just didn't like being strapped into my seat so out they came.

The wiring harness is under an aluminum tunnel I bent on a brake which I covered with vinyl like the dash.

I wanted the exposed shifter, I'll be raising it up a little. Necessary toggles are where the unnecessary radio was.

The 348 Challenge seats are very comfortable and fits me well, I plan to make moulds and make a few but for now a kid with a Honda project that didn't materialize sold me a set of new in the wrapper NRG seats for $700 Canadian. They fit well, I had the lower cushions reshaped not too long ago and made side mounts for them. They'll do for now, I needed seats and the NRG's fit the bill.

Im with you about harnesses on the street and without a HANS. Bad experience and way less safe.

Race harnesses with a race seat add almost 100hp, it's one of the biggest performers important you can make. The harnesses alone are close to 50hp, but I don't think the seats alone add anything?

Looking good Paul! Any plans to add hp by actually adding hp?

The lights IIRC are from a Fiat, I found them online but not ebay and they gave me the look I wanted. It's a personal taste thing for sure, I just wanted something different.

The opening on the fenders will get shortened, I will not extend the louvers to fill the hole. I also felt not only are the louvers an important part of the look but that the leading edge of the opening is still in line with the hood opening.

No that is not the final position for the lights. Just eyeballing it.

I just cut up a beautiful black one. I’m going to get one of these soon. A berlinetta is definitely in my future.

Great project Newman. Can’t wait to see it unfold.

I replaced the rear lid and bumper with fiberglass Group 4 parts. They lack the structure for mounting to the factory hinges and latches which is the direction I wanted to take, not so good for someone wanting a little more original looking. So I went external on the hinges and I have some hood pins the Group 4 cars used that are small rather than something from a 70 Challenger hood. The fit right out the box for both parts required no bodywork. I was impressed.

Weight reduction is 70 lbs with those two pieces replaced.
