    The Story:

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday Morning, and there was news of the Gumball 3000 stopping in my home town. After the stop, their final destination was Downtown San Diego for the day. A friend of mine said the event was taking place from 11am-2pm, the time-frame was misleading. Everyone assumed all cars were arriving at 11 and leaving at 2pm. In reality, the gumball cars would be arriving and leaving in the hours between 11am and 2pm, and stop point time was anywhere from 1 minute, a lot of them were in a hurry, to hours, as long as they wanted to hangout.

Anyway, I leave my house around 12:40, arrive at the Hilton, and no cars were there. I hop on the 5 freeway , pass only about 5 gumballers, and eventually meet up with Symbolic Owner driving his G spyder, who was nice enough to lead me to the event, and get me into the event and parties. Nice guy!! I followed him and we parked our cars in the Gumball lineup. When we arrived, only about 20 cars were there. They put decal stickers on my car, hung out, and later on partied. Partied with Bam margera and ryan dunn and had some of my friends meet up with us later. It was located at the Ivy league hotel, partied at their rooftop pool party, great times!!

    Cool!!

I've always wondered if "just anybody" can race, or is it invite only. I've heard it an entry can run about 30G, is that true?

I've never been too impressed w/ Gumball, lots of unskilled drivers in that group.

Add $100k to that; it's gone up dramatically from prior years, and the organization has decreased dramatically from prior years, someone friendly with one of the participants told me it's horribly organized this year, no one knows where they're supposed to be and when, etc.

I was a driver for the whole US leg , The event was really cool and no complains at all. The gumball staff made some really cool things for this event , leaving SF there were close to 500,000 people watching us and all the streets were closed for the start of the event , at LA hollywood Blvd was closed for 12 hours just for the gumball and at san diego they hosted a party at the house of forbes top 100. This guys really know how to make things happen specially knowing they are not from the US and they have to plan everthing from abroard.

The Rally was great and I would do it again next year , the cost is high but its price to play.

The US leg of the rally was not bad at all, just a little disorganized, somewhat true to its reputation.
