I finally got my car back. I've been dealing with a string of electrical gremlins ever since I repainted the car. Yesterday, she ran great. Everything except the ammeter. The shop said my ammeter wasn't working correctly and they sent it out to be repaired. What they sent back had a different face on it. They explained that they put in updated internals to get correct readings. And the updated internals wouldn't work with the original face.

I don't know about that. I've asked for my original parts back. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Also, the main cause of my electrical woes was some bad wiring under the dash. Seems that old (30+ yrs) wires don't like to be moved. So when we repainted the car (don't ask me why we didn't think to replace the wiring harness), some of the old wiring must have broken inside the jackets. All seems fine now. FINALLY!

Oh, forgot to mention that I noticed that my choke is dangling inside my console. I don't know how the shop managed to push it thru. Is it an easy thing for me to remount? Seems like I just need to get the console up so I can get under it.

    Yup.

they need to return your original stuff to you. As a matter of course on my car, there's always a bix of old parts for me to pick up, with the car, after a major service.

I don't buy their explanation, at all.
