Well, after nearly 4 weeks at FCI, Bella is back home. I want to thanks Jim and Casey( Ferrari service) for all of their help. They kept me informed and were very professional. a brief recap: My 2007 f1430 with 6500mi wouldn't shift gears from 5th to 6th. The inital thought was that it was the clutch and that was replaced. I was told that there was also excessive heating of the clutch as well. After it was replaced , it still didn't shift properly. FNA then told FCI to order an F1 kit that finally fixed the problem ($27,000 in parts alone). The final bill to me was $5,500 ( had to pay for the clutch and labor associated with that). Drove my baby home in 35 degree weather and she is better than when I first got her ( went through all the gears multiple times and took her up to 100mph for a hot second, flawless).

Lessons learned: Buy a used F-car with some warranty left if possible. Mine ended 2/1/2010 and had I not driven my car when I did and this same thing would have happened, I'd be on the hook for about $32,000 for repairs!!! FNA is very strict about warranty issues ( I think they should have covered the entire bill, but...)

Not to mention scary! Has anyone else experienced this? Man, that makes me shutter at picking up a ride that is out of warranty if this is something that is known to be an issue...

I recently had a problem with my F430's F1 gearbox, it was diagnosed as bleeder valve issue, at least that is what the first diagnosis was. The symptoms were that the slow down light would come on and intermittently the F1 gearbox warning light would flash.

Well the first time this happened it was taken to the dealer under warranty and the result was that the dealer tightened up the bleeder valve and replenished the gearbox fluid and the lights stopped coming on.....at least for a while, about 1000 miles.

Then the lights and symptoms returned and this time a new symptom included the paddle shifter would not shift from 5th to 6th. it seemed to pause shifting for up to 15 seconds then after slowing down the shifting would resume. The diagnosis this time was from the factory and they replaced the bleeder valves, this did not solve the issue, so the factory recommended that the dealer replace the pressure pump for the F1 gearbox.....7 grand later the car runs perfect and yeah it was out of warranty by the time the second diagnosis occurred. But from what I understand, this is a known series of F1 gearbox issues by the factory.

Next time your car is in I would reccomend that the Dealer run the tests related to the F1 gearbox and how much the pump is running during shifts, this test results in a histogram that should tell you a lot about what is actually going on with both your pressure and your pressure pump.

Next time a novice asks about (potential) maintenance costs, maybe we should qualify our "no problem" remarks. $27,000 (let alone $32,000) will buy you a brand new 100,000 mile warrantied car. Best

    that's pretty scary.
$27K is crazy repair money. Powerball seems like a good idea now.

    Hi J,

My 07' F1 is at FoH the last 2 weeks waiting for the headers to come from Italy (the infamous headers leakage issues), since my warranty expires around 05/2010, I was contemplating on the purchase of the Power Cube warranty and get the required PPI done while the car is there. Your post just sealed the $5200 price tag decision for me! Thanks

We're in the same situation, my 430's warranty runs out next week. What does power cube cover exactly?

Basically the extended version of your original warranty for an extra year. $5200 plus cost for inspection. You have to get it done within the 30 days of the expiration of your original warranty date.

    Thanks!
How much is the inspection? I just had a casual FoH inspection but not the warranty one.
