Its been about 2 and a half weeks since I have driven the 599 due to snow and work. I had a Ferrari Battery tender plugged in the entire time. Unplugged it today and went to start the car....nothing, nada, zilch! Battery light flashing on the dash.

WTF????? What failed? The battery tender or something else??

Now has to be towed and probably the battery has to be changed.

Isn't it easier to just buy a new battery, put it in, and perhaps buy a new battery tender...?

That was my thought, but I'll bet the whole car has to be rebooted if the power is interrupted. It might not be so simple.

Car will be towed to the local dealer and theyll figure it out. I guess I will be buying both a new battery and a new battery tender.

"Just" a car after all. I suspect applying the usually 360 etc. power-off start-up and drive-cycle should be sufficient - the owner's manual probably provides sufficient detail.

I am going through the same thing right now with my 430. I've done a lot. New Ferrari tender replaced under warranty, battery check and still the car would not start just 24 hours later. Just replaced the Ferrari oem battery (after 16 months) with a interstate 91 and a new tender. All done at dealer. $550

I own at least 30 battery chargers... and they are all POS. The worst is the Tender from Deltran. I think they work well with new batteries and after a whille they stop working and even destroy it. I had a battery almost exploding. I was lucky to found out it was getting very hot before it happen.
I decide to keep all disconnected this winter and just disconect the batteries. I am only keeping the C-TEK I got from the Porsche dealer connected and one in-board from Sears on my Ferrari... they had been working well.
I replace so many times expensive batteries that I am getting the cheap one from Napa... and just disconecting... it works much better... I have the old style blade switch installed and no more problems... of course all depends how difficult is access to do that each time you want go out.

It was the tender that failed.

Get the 7000 model and hook it up. The problem with the included tender is that it doesn't supply enough amps to the battery and thus the cars on board electronics will pull more than the tender can supply and that in turn somehow kills the tender. Mine died also.

The dealer said the new tender is $399. Worth getting or is there a better alternative?

AJ-I sold one for $100 recently, and Ricambi has them for $243.30, if you have the one that hooks up in the trunk. If you have the large Zivan charger, get something else to use and Zivan can rebuild it so it looks cool in the trunk in its leather case.

Save the little red cover and manual from the old one if it is a CTEK. Somebody can probably use it.

The middle image is a CTEK without the Ferrari badging, the bottom image is the earlier Zivan and its leather case.

AJ- Guess I hit the wrong one. Should be a US version if you look. Which did you have, the CTEK or the Zivan? That was a CTEK and it is not for the US because the plugs and voltage are different.

Mine too has a new ctek charger after it killed the old battery. There is a black box on top of the positive terminal. Where do you put the positive lead in that black box if you are going to install the connection for a battery tender?

    Finally! :D

I ended up getting the c-tek with the attachment that plugs into the accessory outlet. Works great and I never have to open the hood.

My local ferrari dealer installed a new tender in both my cars last April...they said they recommend a unit from Napa that was $34.49 (I have the receipt in front of me, but it doesn't say anything other than "Bat/Chgr" so I can't tell you which model). Anyways, they said they stopped installing the crappy ferrari one's because they didn't work and besides the NAPA one was a tiny fraction of the cost. I bought the chargers at Napa (along with an in-iine fuse)...they are the "permenant" type that don't have clips, but rather are attached to the terminals of the battery and mounted in the battery area (they are pretty small)...the dealer even sent a tech to my house and he installed them in my garage...The Napa bill was $85 and the dealer charged me $140 for a new battery that the CS needed anyways (Interstate MTP-91) and 2 hours labor to install it all (2 chargers and 1 battery). I have a pig-tail near the passenger footwell in the CS and in the trunk in the Maser.

Get on EBay.com, order the CTEK 3300, should be less than $80 Including shipping. CTEK makes the chargers for Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Maserati, etc.

You could also upgrade to the 7002 model for around $140.

Lol too late! But they picked up/delivered the car, fully charged the battery and sold me a new tender all for about $340. So not too shabby!

Glad you are back in order...and glad you paid less all-in than the outrageous first quote of $399 just for a charger!
