I bid this week on a 1993 green/creme 348ts at Steve Harris Ferari, St. Lake City, UT. They're asking 50k. I offered 45k, with delivery incluyded.

Car was purchased by a guy in CA. They ran up the mileage to about 18k to import the car in 1993 to avoid tax/import regulatory problems. The car shows 20k miles currently; so essentially the car has 2k miles.

I love the green metallic; others hate it but I love it. Different, yet brings out the lines of the car.

All services are done. Tires are original to 1993, so they'll have to be replaced.

Car is beautiful. But it's only worth so much; regardless of the love of it's buyer. I can't see offering more than 45k.

Buyer isn't budging on the 50k price.

I could buy 2 348 spiders and a Speciale for 45K. I certainly would feel that this car I bid on would be in the same price range.

The wise/experienced commentary from the board participants is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Unless you really like green and must have it, I would pass. The Speciale will bring you a better value later on IMHO and there are many more low mile, service done 348's on the market.

If you pay 50, your purchase will be reflected in the "blue book" numbers as an uptick in value. I love what it does for me, but not so much for you.

For a Euro, off color 348 with a TMU speedo I think your offer is way more than generous. I'd be at $40k max.

That car at Steve Harris has been there for quite some time as I would love a green 348 but had already bought a red one. That car is also an award winner so it must be in pretty good shape. But for $50k, why not try to move on up to a 355? Not sure you could buy 2 348 spiders and a Speciale for $45K unless they are complete crap. But hey, what do I know. ;-)

Why does everyone say to move up to a 355? Did it ever occur to some of the "experts" here that some people really like 348's and that's the car they want. I could have bought a 355 or a lower end 360 a few years ago but really had my heart set on a 348 so that's what I bought.

I agree that 50 is to much for a grey market car. You have a lot of nice US spec cars at your disposal for that kind of money.

Keep hunting, it's half the fun.:)

355 engines have a LOT of weaknesses compared to the 348, IMO....:D

Yeah, when I first started seriously considering buying my first Ferrari, I was thinking, "Well, I can get a sweet 348 now or wait a while and get a 360 or something." Then it hit me -- I don't WANT a 360, I want a 348. Nothing against the 360 or the 355, they're great cars. Just not what I'm after. To each his own!
