…and I’m happy to say no leaks and it started right up! Adjust both carbs and it idles nicely. Still waiting on the seats and door panels to come back from the upholstery shop and a few other smaller things left to do. Definitely should be done this month. Happy New Year!
Hi Dave, Amazing work! I watched all your content on you tube over the holidays, thankyou. I have one question are the hood, trunk and fender badges all the same size? 82mm or more like an Izetta 60mm? (51145576113)
Hi Lewis, I'm glad you like following along! The badges on the 507 for the hood, trunk, and grilles are all the same size and are the larger size. The font is different than the newer badges, as was the style for BMW at the time. I'll be posting a few more videos soon. Happy new year!
Meaning, what is next after this? I know I can’t top it and don’t want to try! It’s been an incredible journey. More to come…. cheers Dave
We're nearing the end! Still waiting on the seats and door panels from the upholstery shop, meanwhile, it's back in its own four feet and has had a few runs of the engine adjusting the carbs. I stowed the convertible top and created a cover for it. I'll have the upholstery guy sew up one with the same color fabric as the seats next month. Hope to have it done next month! Cheers Dave
Good luck bidding on your next one!! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1959-bmw-507/?utm_source=Iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=campaign_2648440
Right! There’s another that just was a no-sale at $1.55mil USD. Reportedly sold after the auction for an undisclosed amount. I’m in the final stretches of mine. Update over the weekend! cheers Dave
Ha! I know, Mike. I’ve been sent that company info from several people. It’s interesting since digging around for info, they don’t have a chassis yet and will likely use a donor car of sorts for it. Not withstanding that, it is interesting they are creating it and the workmanship on the metal looks pretty nice! $220k for a complete car? I would be curious to see it and check out the underpinnings and finish. The late John Kraman and I chatted about my car when I brought it to MCACN two years ago, and the price he thought I should get for mine was flattering to say the least. I’m not sure of the market they’ll have but it would be an untapped classic genre that many people haven’t seen. My car was built to be as accurate as possible with no donor chassis, rather, a true-to-original substructure as close as I could get it. I’m glad to see more attention come to these cars. Not many even know what they are even amongst BMW “enthusiasts”. Spread the word! cheers Dave
Done! More photos to come as I stay driving it! Cheers Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Series 1 are very rare, indeed. Where did you see them? What shop/venue? Do you have pictures? We like pictures! cheers Dave
Amazing build , I 've seen a lot of chassis made and bodywork done, but trim and bumpers brazing and brass , grills with complex curves that's skill.
