Great, and I'll continue to call out poor behaviour by moderators when I see it. Are you suggesting that a moderator shouldn't be held to a higher standard than regular posters? Really? Lead by example, boys!
There is a difference between "pithy" and trolling. Re-read Matt's posts, maybe you'll see that. (And maybe you won't) D
By the way, I'll bet you interfering mods are just coming to the aid of a fellow mod without even reviewing the posts in question. It's a bit of a boys club, isn't it?
No, they should not. They are, as Rob says, "Members first, mods second." I try to operate the opposite way, "Mod first, member second" but you know how well that's worked for me in the Aussie section. D
I have been involved with this thread from the start. I've read all of the posts, not just Matt's. Oh, and how, exactly, are we interfering? Has anyone been banned? Has there been the threat of a ban? Um, no. D
I think the OP is setting himself up for a further fall, so I see the point, but I see what Smiles is doing too. You can't have the moral high ground and do this stuff. But so be it.
I know what Rob says, and I understand the sentiment...BUT.... you have to be held to a higher standard if you're a mod. FULL STOP. Of course you're all free to post, but borderline trolling by a mod is just not on. Actually, it wasn't borderline IMO, and I'm not the only one who commented. and interfering wasn't the right word...involving themselves suddenly in a thread where none of them were previously involved makes it pretty obvious what's going on here.
There is a certain camaraderie that develops among the mods, and given the nature of the job here, we have a self help and support group that meets on occasion. Much as you Aussie fellas don't abandon a friend, neither do we. In the same spirit, if one screws up, we call him out. But not with nearly the volume or, eh, edginess that you folks do. D
That's a lovely story, Dave, but it does nothing to address my comments, not that it needs to. We Aussies don't stand up for fellow Aussies if they're in the wrong.
Moderators, all very interesting but way off topic for the subject of Russ v Norwood. Talk about moderation on a different thread please.
Look guys, surely you are not being very fair on the OP by continuing this discussion on this topic. It has nothing to do with his car. Would you like me to help you all out and create a new thread just for discussion about moderators?
Smiles, you come across as revelling in this misfortune, not a nice trait, yes the OP has to a degree set himself up and continues to do so, but that does not justify Norwoods actions, continual gloating and sniping from someone who should be setting standards is not right. You have made your point, other mods are keeping an eye on this thread anyway so why not move on now, you are adding nothing to the matter.
OP its clear you do not like face to face confrontation, Norwood clearly knows this and regards you as a soft touch. Hiding behind lawyers etc will just waste more of your hard earned money, get down there and sort it out as I mentioned previously, once you have set out a clear spreadsheet that is easy for anyone to understand. His boys have clearly been using your project as a place to dump lost hours and he now has convinced himself you actually owe him that money. Take an independent third party who is a good talker, that may help calm the waters and come up with a resolution that gets your car onto a trailer and out of there, otherwise this will simply drag on and on. Make it awkward for him, at the moment its not.
OMG.....I was trying to put my finger on exactly what it is that was so disingenuous and nasty about his posting, and you nailed it.
So people are supposed to just read endless one-sided complaints and justifications without comment? Russ chose to air dirty laundry here on a very public forum and should expect not everyone to jump in with the "poor guy and the other side is evil" support. That's one reason (among many more serious ones) to not pull these stunts. Surely this isn't just a public service announcement as he's already gone over his (badly formed) legal claim..... so go do the legal thing and report the outcome. A betting pool of how many more lawyers he's go through before this is done would be interesting (both ones that fire him like we have already and ones he fires). I think total of 3. (5 if we count the one he has pursuing Buckley).
Constructive comment yes, its a public forum, Norwood will be aware of the thread and has an equal right of reply, but simply repeating the same negative things by a mod is not on, which numerous neutral people like me have now said, by us putting their heads above the parapet. I doubt the OP will take on board any of it, but if anyone else finds themselves in the same place in the future some of the suggested actions may help them when they do a search on here.
Regardless of the tone of the thread and some of the comments, this is extremely valuable content for FerrariChat. Russ's thread is a primer on what to do (and not do) to build a one off from a heap of parts. Some of the more valuable lessons are: Know what you are buying; what is included and what is not. Interview your constructor and agree on everything including a timeline, budget, accounting of labor and materials, and a process for change orders midestream. Also agree on an expected outcome and a resolution for issues. Find a third party SME who can review engineering and the build process in real time. Determine what parts are needed to complete the build to the buyer's satisfaction and agree who will purchase them. Know the local laws where the build is happening. I am sure there are many other lessons to be learned here as well. The main one I keep coming back to is that a well-sorted, available car is going to be a lot more affordable and offer a lot more seat time than any custom. For the $125k Russ has in this thing he could have been driving a number of pristine, sorted and well maintained exotics.
