i continue to hang my head! my bbi after more than two years in the shop has been finished...so excited right? wrong! after hours of run in time the car now has an oil leak at the head gasket on the right bank. this car has gotten me so fuggin depressed i cannot express. i am at my wits end on this car. i have decided to ship the car to a boxer expert. how much more money will i bleed? how much for head gaskets approx? what else should be done when the motor is out yet again. list of work to date: belts water pump main shaft clutch/pres. plate fuel accumulater oil lines (including the big braided lines! HUGE MONEY!!!!) headers and jet hot coating all gaskets w/ exception of heads fuel inj runners and plenums removed and re-finished all water lines all fuel lines i really need a shoulder and so advice other than kill the tech. thank you. peter
Peter - I think you're referring to gasket 102596. Full bore retail is about $500 -- but it's likely available for slightly less. It's on page TAV-1 of my parts book, and listed as item #62. I'd be happy to check on it if you'd like... just shoot me a PM. Kindly, Daniel
Peter, Listen to me! Have the Boxer towed to FAI in Costa Mesa. Talk to Rod Drew. (949)631-6373. He is an expert on these mid 80's Ferraris. He's worked on my Boxer for YEARS!!!!! DON'T waste your time with anyone else! My car is there right now getting worked on.
This is terriable!! But unfortunatly things like this do happen. I would be upset aswell..hang in there, you'll get her back in order!!
thanks armen. rod is a very capable guy and he would be the guy i would call if my car were out west. my boxer is in an east coast shop as i have re-located east to work w/ my new investment bank. rod is w/o question the top west coast guy along w/ tony palladino. do you all have any recomendations for experts on the east coast? franco genese was a great 12 cyl guy in greenwich but i am not sure where he is anymore? i want a guy that has been into these motors and really knows what else needs to be addressed when the heads are off. btw, armen, you and i met some time ago in newport where we talked boxers. i remember telling you that yours was the only one i have seen that was legitimatley as nice as mine and as fanatically preserved! have you had your motor opened up for any reason? do you have a sense of the cost to replace the head gaskets? thanks for the help...otherwise a dismal day. i'm so mad i may go out and smoke the tires off of my 930!!! could help somehow.
Peter, I remember the conversation, but can't put a face to it! I don't know prices all that well. But Rod does ALL my work. Good luck with this issue! Hope it all works out well.
if you can get in, david letterman's guy Francois Sicard in CT is very well respected. this guy knows him well and i think has been somewhat of an apprentice to him and can help you connect: [email protected] good luck
sicard is good...i don't think i can get in. i tried to call jean louis lebreton to get his advice too. i do wonder whatever became of franco genesee as he was very, very good. i may send to bill pollard if he can fit me in. i am at $17k dollars and still climbing. i do wonder the cost of the hea gaskets r and r??
Pete, would you be willing to reveal where you had your boxer originally serviced in the San Diego area?
Go to Bill Pollard, he will fix it properly. The question is has any of the work been done properly or does it all need redoing. Seems we have too many posts abvout people who cant find someone to deal with their boxers. I guess there are the old ferrari people who understand carbs and the newer ones who just plug in a computer to tell thim which bit to replace. There are good boxer people out there and once you find them the cars are a joy to own. Give Bill a call.
called bill on sat. he and i have spoken alot sine i first bought my 512. i trust bill totally but he is a long way away from me and i hate the thought of spending 2k just to have bill work on my car. having said that...bill and i will speak tomorrow and discuss timeline and shipping arrangements. sean, bill is one of the very best boxer guys in the country...i was hoping to find a more local solution. as a note on jobs that i have been able to self perform, bill has often been on the phone coaching me...of course i pay him for his time. pcb
this car has gotten me so fuggin depressed i cannot express. are you dr, seus ? i take your problem ferrari off your hands for 10k, cash !! bro, be patient, it will get fixed, and it will certainly get better for ya......
Sorry to hear your bad luck. I remember a while ago you posted that you were relocating to San Diego and you were adding another rare Boxer to the wonderfull state. I think all the Southern California owners on this site were looking forward to seeing your car. I wish you the best and please don't give up ! Keep us posted . Dave
Just curious............what was the original problem with the car, that required it to be in the shop for over 2 years?
The mechanics at Algar in Phila. did a very good job doing virtually everything to an 83 Queen of a boxer i had:- the thing ran flawlessly, and i put 10k miles on it in the year i had it. Another, semi-local possibility is Wil DeGroot, who i have just developed a relationship with, for my first Lambo. I know he knows less modern ferraris too, and seems to have a penchant for working on difficult cars. (He had an AM Lagonda that he was re-wiring when i was there). Wide World also does alot of work for folks on the board here, and while they have done mild service to a couple of Ferraris for me in the past, i have never had them do anything extensive on an older car. Jim (Napolis) has alot of juice there, and knows their shop as well as anyone.
thank you whart. i appreciate your input. heinryk, the problem began w/ a sheared main shaft and ferrari shipping the wrong parts...i went down hill from that point. i will elaborate to you in a pm when i have time to recount. thank you all for your advice and support!
