i have been haveing ongoing starting problems for a while.my 1985 mondial qv has new injectors, accumulator, filter, time delay switch.went for a nice ride yesterday and the car runs flawlessly.if you stop to get gas or eat it does not start well.seems it would crank and fire almost imediately but just as quick it would shut off.i would have to repeat this three or four times then it would fire and stay running.put it on the lift last night and was going to replace the check valve on the fuel pump.when i pulled the line off the pump there was not a drop of fuel.i mean none.i thought the accumulator should have at least a little something on it.thanks for any help.

I thought the accumulator did a couple tasks. One is smoothing out the pulses of the fuel pump. The accumulator also keeps the system between it and the injectors or at least the metering block under pressure. Between the fuel pump and the accumulator it would only be what the fuel pump retained as residual pressure. The accumulator is designed to not allow pressure to bleed backwards, it would not do anything for pressure between fuel pump and accumulator.

the accumulator did not have an in and out marked.I thought it was basicly a spring loaded diaphram and the check valve on the pump maintained pressure.but I'm not sure of anything

I'm not sure of this diagnosis, but I would investigate a leaky injector. The accumulator is supposed to maintain fuel pressure on the injectors to keep them closed. If you have a leaky injector this fuel pressure means one cylinder gets lots of fuel when the car is off, so no fuel pressure when you took the accumulator apart. Also all of the extra fuel in in the intake would make the car hard to start for a while. Eventually (days) the fuel would evaporate and the car would start normally.
