See here, $30 fix: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136586173&postcount=8 Also I wanted to thank you BeeJay for this thread. As dumb as it seems, I had NO IDEA the steering wheel could be adjusted up. I've been living for the past 2 months with the speedo completely covered. Sure enough, after reading this thread, I found the lever way down there on the steering column and now I can read the speed and tach. It is SO much better I'm too happy about this discovery to worry about how big an idiot I am Maybe I should sit down and read the manual one of these days, who knows what else I might discover....
Congratulations on your purchase. It brings back great memories of my first Ferrari. Are you going to take it to the Monterey event in August? It is a lot of fun. You can park it on the grenn with about 300+ ferrari's. www.concorso.com. Enjoy your Ferrari!!!
Bee Jay, that is a REALLY clean car. If I owned it I would definitely consider concours events, so many people mod their cars, and yours is beautifully stock (as far as I can tell).
When I started my search back in Janaury, I had two requirements time wise, I must have the car for my birthday party, this Saturday, and I must have my car to drive to Concours Italiano this year. I've gone to the Monterey Historics every year since '88. I will be there, this time as a Ferrari owner. Bee Jay
Thanks Cuneo. I did the Concours weenie thing when my Corvette was new. Keeping everything absolutely correct, and clean, clean, clean, then clean some more. I've got a box of trophies that I used to display on the mantle, then I remarried. Compliments from bystanders at the gas station, or a thumbs up on the highway are much more satisfying and they don't take up mantle space. I'll keep it clean, and since I can't afford 355 wheels or painting the bottom red right now, the car will stay stock a while. BTW, I thought the side strakes were a necessary evil since I could not afford the purchase price of a 355 or the valve/header/F1 shifter maintenance price. But now that I have the car, open the door and looked at them up close......I love them. I actually love the cheese grater side strakes. They are staying. Bee Jay PS Mervyns stayed open till 11pm last night. My wife was contemplating going last night or waiting till after church today to catch the sale. I volunteered to drive her to Mervyns in the Ferrari. Took it our for a midnite ride buying towels!!!!!!. This car makes unhappy chores exciting. The car looks fantastic under the Mall lights at night. PSS First thing I did this morning, again I looked in the garage. Yep, it's still there. I got plenty to say thank you for in church this morning. PSSS My Mom flew in yesterday. Surprised her in the garage. She loves it too. She never really liked the Vette. "My Baby finally got his Ferrari, God is good" were her words. If the car isn't there in the morning, I've really enjoyed the last two days. PSSSS It's casual Sunday at church (last Sunday). I usually ride the Harley on casual Sunday. So the grand unveiling to friends will be Saturday at the Party and next Sunday at church. This is fun.
You sound like a genuinely good guy........a regular Joe who has to work for the car treats but can appreciate them more than most, good luck to you!
Bee Jay, I have been going since 1984. WOW!!! How times have changed. You are going to love being there with your Ferrari. I remember when I took mine for the first time. The event was at Carmel Valley. This year will be my first time going as a Lamborghini owner. I can't wait. I will look for your Ferrari. I will be driving my 1999 Diablo Vt, Blk/Blk. See you in Monterey.
Today was about taking everyone for a ride. First I took my Mom for a ride. Then I took one of the reverands from church for a ride. Then I took the car to Santa Maria via Harris Grade, a very windy mountanous road. I let it rip to 7000 rpm. Man, what a sound, what a thrill. I was yanking and banking, and the car just handles. Took it up to 100mph. Second gear will take some getting used to though. The grin is from ear to ear. I love this car. Back to work and reality in the am. I think I'll take the Vette and keep the secret at work another week. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No he's not...... Hang on!! Is he? Bee Jay, I am sure you were a good man BEFORE you purchased your gorgeous 348. You really do sound like a great guy!! The 348 Brotherhood is just a feather in your cap my friend.
I've always wanted one (Ferrari), more for the driving experience than for the status, or investment/collectability aspect. I love driving. I've only put 70 miles on it so far but the driving experience is much better than I expected. The sound alone is worth the price of admission, but the handling, acceleration, and pure pleasure of driving such a fine high performance exotic Italian sports car is a bonus. I drove a bright yellow Corvette at 21 years old, not exactly low key, but this gets even more looks, comments, and interaction. I love people, and I love interacting with them. My wife thinks I'd have an engaging conversation with a duck if it could talk. So I'm meeting more people and having conversations with more people just because of the car, so that is an added and unexpected blessing. I've got to stay grounded though, I know people that only associated with the "right" people after attaining their Bentley or other high priced exotic. That is why I like this forum, there are some people here with obviously much more means than I'll ever have, but they interact here just like plain car loving folks.
