This was really weird. I think she had a stroke or something. She was milling about as usual this morning, didn't seem sick or anything. No real history of health problems, either.

About 2pm I noticed her lying near the wall in the dining room like she always does. I saw that she had puked a little (nothing unusual). I walked up to her to touch her with my foot and noticed she moaned and didn't move much. My fiance came in and noticed half her body was twitching and appeared paralyzed. We called the animal hospital and was told to wrap her in a towel and bring her in. When my fiance tried to move her, she moaned even more and tried to get up, but could not. The cat rolled on her back at one point and I could tell her entire body was torqued in this grotesque manner. I really winced at seeing this.

My fiance finally got her wrapped in a towel and we got in the car. She (my fiance) was sobbing uncontrollably during the entire ride. The cat seemed to have all kinds of problems breathing, making very scary sounds. Just as we got out of the car at the animal hospital, she went limp and died.

I feel bad mostly for my fiance. She's really sad. I feel a little down, too, even though I thought the cat was a bit on the evil side. The whole thing happened so fast. No chemicals around the house for her to get into that we could find. The vet seemed to think she had either a stroke or a massive blood clot. I got her from the shelter in 1995.

That's unfortunate. It's probably best it happened before the vet as you'd have had a huge vet bill to contend with too and no guarantee she'd have lived.

Please take solice in the knowledge that you were with her at the end. You made her as comfortable as she could be. I only hope I can do the same for my dog when that terrible day finally comes...

    Sincere sympathy.

You're a good man and I think your gal is a keeper.

Be glad your cat didn't suffer over a long period of time and that when the time suddenly came, you both did what you could, and the only relief that was to be had was parting this earth in the care of those your cat loved the most.

May your cat Rest In Peace. I mean that.

From a guy's perspective, this is the most well-written "my pet died" story since Jack London's epic tales were penned.

    Sensitive, yet macho.

Wouldn't want anybody to get the wrong idea about your fiancee being sensitive, yet macho, so:

    <Important>fiance =guy, fiancee = gal</Important>

As you move on to more positive things, may you and your gal's tears be tears of joy.

I'm so sorry. Like someone said, take comfort from the fact that you gave her 11 years of a really good life.

When you're ready, go back to the shelter and make a good home for another one.

I had to put our aged cat, Henry, down several years ago because he was suffering, and it still breaks my heart when I think about it. Pet people are special. My wife doesn't trust anybody that doesn't get along with animals. She did not want to replace Henry too soon with any new critters, but I insisted after a few weeks of silence in the house.
I can smile now at the memory of him, and we have a brother and sister Egyptian Maus to amuse us every day. I am sorry for your loss- but know that another cat(s) can bring you joy, and it may help sooner than you'd think.

That cat was pretty symbolic of our relationship. When we first met and dated, she helped me go to the shelter to buy her. We broke up (she went back to her ex a few months after we got her) and three years later, in 1998, got back together. During those three years we were broken up, that cat always reminded me of her, and sometimes it made me pretty sad. So her dying today is really a piece of that that's gone now.

My fiance was closer to that animal than I was. She pretty much fed her, brushed her and cleaned the cat box. I do not ever want to see her cry like that again. It really hurts me to see her cry that way.

Thank you for the kind words.

I'm sorry for your loss, but please reflect on the unconditional love and friendship that your cat gave you and you gave your cat. She was fortunate to escape certain death without knowing love and you saved her from that fate. Mourn for a while but when you are ready, there are more pets out there in need of your love.

I adopted my cat Daphne from the animal shelter 3 years ago, and every day with her is a blessing.

Agree with the others, sounds like she lived out her life and at the end went quick and without suffering.

I'm just glad we were home today and that she didn't die all alone in the house. Just luckily my fiance skipped out on her open house. I could not have gotten her to the vet all by myself. I wouldn't even have known whom to call so quickly.

I just hope she knew we weren't trying to harm her when we tried to wrap her in that towel and take her to the hospital. She looked really scared lying on the floor.

    She knew!!!

A few days after my best Pal (a Yorkiepoo) died 7 years ago, a black cat showed up on my windowsill.

She's been with me ever since!

In fact, she's sleeping on the chair next to me right now!

I really think Piper(my Yorkie) sent her to me; she didn't want me to be alone.

She sent me a cat, as to send me another dog would have made her jealous! :)

I'm guessing you do not have any pets.....

I don't know what I'd do without my 2 guys, when we go on vacation all I do is think about them, wish I was home.....
I thought I was going to lose one of my guys a few years ago, I spent $700 at the Vet, he pulled thru, and I would have spent $7,000. I was pretty much a wreck for a week, I couldn't concentrate on anything else but Chino, and Bailey (the other cat) wandered around the house, lost without his buddy.

Pets are special because they are innocent creatures with no prejudice, hell, I get tears in my eyes when I see animals on the side of the road.

Sorry for your loss, I know how much it hurts.

I know what you mean, our Fat Cat (that's her name, Fat Cat) is so in love with Ella (the black cat) that she will cry and carry on when she can't find her.
She once alerted us when Ella got outside and she's also informed us when Ella has accidently been closed up in a drawer. (Ella's the inquisitive one.)

Don't know what's going to happen when one of them passes on, they've always been together.
