I went to the above event at the Vue Cinema in Leeds. Thought I'd let you all know my thoughts on the idea. Overall I was incredibly impressed. I went with my Father in Law, my 10 year-old setpson and his friend. We left home at 11.30am and we were sat in very comfy seats by 12.15. The cheapest tickets for the Grand Prix at Silverstone were £99. At the cinema it cost £30 for all 4 of us and we also got a programme each and a free drink and bag of popcorn. By 12.30 the cinema was nearly full. Most people seemd to be pretty neutral, but I was surprised about the number of Ferrari fans there. I thought everyone would be cheering for Lewis. I didn't catch the names of the commentators, but they were commentating just for the cinema audiences up and down the UK as they occasionally mentioned the fact that we were watching the race in surround sound and they hoped we were being shaken in our cinema seats! It was veery loud, which I thought was great. People clapped and cheered at appropriate points and seemed to keep pretty quiet during the rest of the time.
One thing that has struck me over the years is the fact that a race on TV can sometimes seem to take forever whereas when you are at the circuit they always seem to be very short. The British GP was one of the shortest! The noise and fantastic coverage was amazing.
Obviously, it's better to actually be at the track, but watching the race in a cinema is definately the next best thing. I would say it was 50% of the full GP experience for less than 1% of the price. I think their ticket sales must have been good as they were talking about showing the rest of the season at the cinema. I'm on holiday when the Gerrman GP is on, but I will certainly be going to some of the other races at the cinema. I highly recommend that any UK Fchatters do the same.

Sounds great! I would pay $20 for something like this in the US. Can you find out where they get the feed? Maybe we could look into paying for that feed in the states.

At first I thought you were saying they were showing the 1966 film "Grand Prix" in the theater, which also would have been cool.

FYI - that movie is available on HD DVD, and is incredible to watch, espcially for Monaco fans. Nothing like that will ever be filmed again.
