Last year a Cherokee 180 landed on a deer in the dark; Saturday, this guy goes off the end of the runway, down an embankment, and flips. No injuries. But, insurance was already insane. I'm not sure we'll be able to get insurance with two hull claims in under a year. What's worse is that certified aircraft are going up in value so fast, that this 172 is about 30% under insured.

Common man, that will easily buff out.

Insurance for planes is out of this world right now. Our insurance nearly doubled in four years. We have zero claims and a 10,000 hour ATP at the yoke. Makes no difference to them. So even if you had no hull losses, your insurance would still be skyrocketing.

I guess that they are dinging everybody . Our auto insurance took a big increase for no reason .My wife and I put less than 100 miles per month on the car but we were told that we live in zip code that has a high incident rate. So we get nailed for the bums that raise the costs for the company.

The flight lead of our two ship hit a deer on a night take-off in an F-111F. Saw the deer, rotated early to avoid hitting it with the nose gear, and aborted. No harm to the F-111F, but the deer ended up in pieces inside the wheel well after bouncing off the speed brake/main landing gear door. No affect on insurance rates, but we did cancel the rest of the IR Maverick test program at Volk Field, Wisconsin.

It's probably demographic/location specific. I've been using Avemco for the past 5 years, and my premium stays pretty much the same. Just renewed my policy, no increase. My home base is KJYO.

Sorry to hear that. My insurance went up a bunch last summer (actually, premium went up and coverage went down!), so it will be interesting to see what happens this year.

It's always sad to see another lost airframe. You can't tell from picture, but this is about a 50ft elevation drop from runway, so everything on this plane is mangled. I think in the 4 seat market, we've got to be losing them at a much faster rate than anyone is building them? Worse to see, is the airframes sitting on the field neglected for years. In the 2 seat market, maybe LSA is building them faster than they are lost?

It's hard to believe that anyone's insurance isn't much higher, since most airplanes have doubled, tripled? in value in the last 5 years. The insurance companies would have to increase rates, unless you haven't changed your hull value coverage.

I was a member of the DM AFB aero club during the mid 80's. They had two mishaps. One took off behind a C-130 and experienced wake turbulence. I do not remember if the pilot had clearance to take off from the tower. He was walking around with a back brace. I think the other member landed wheels up, in the T-34A Mentor.

B.G. Fogelman came to the club and addressed all of the members in a group about the dismal safety record. B.G. - at the time.
