    Well guess what

    I finally got a BBR 1:43 250 LUSSO

    AND Guess what, the idiot packaged it like a child.

    - Rear bumper completely unattached loose slamming around

    - Rear bumper appears to have torn window frame off so it's hanging by a thread

    - Rear screw not in car at all, car loose moving around and uncentered on base causing screw to drive up into the car where there is not a screw hole (can only see damage looking underneath) and on tire.

    On top of this I also received a perfect condition bbr 1:43 250 gto street that came caked in dust with such a scraped windshield it looks like a kids matchbox. (It was described as perfect).

    Anyways all in all I'm incredibly bummed out as I was hoping to escape for awhile and take some photos of these new cars this weekend. Instead I don't want to look at a single model in person or online.

    Had to rant!

    I guess getting a BBR Lusso is nice shape that is not at a complete joke of a price is just not in the cards.

    Thanks for hearing my rant. Do you all agree I should give bad feedback?

    Know what you are feeling....

    Before giving feedback, try a refund, or ship it back to the seller!
    I know its frustrating, but it happens now and then when shopping online.. Have received several over the years...

    I allways supply packing advice when buying on ebay, and allways check the sellers feedback. A collector will allways pack safe, but sellers with no background on handbuilts are sometimes not aware of the risks of shipping.

    Massafan,
    The california is BBR, its very well detailed, but the nose is out of shape, to square..
    Every handbuilt manufacturer is off sometimes, its very difficult shaping the body in 1:43. If you want a perfectly shaped california, the AMR is better.
    ( I have both)

    You have a great collection of BBR's.
    I have been collecting handbuilts since 1987, a large part of my collection is bbr, but there is much more!! try miniwerks.com THE handbuiltforum 1:43's.

    Wow, thanks for sharing. You are so right, that burgundy lusso looks beautiful. Loving the photos.

    I'll post some photos of the carnage and some more of my collection soon. Sadly I still haven't gotten my lens back so the iphone camera will have to remain good enough.

    Always a great pleasure to glance over your collection Hans. I see a nice red MakeUp Testarossa in there. Boy, those sold out quickly! Can you imagine, 200+ 1/43 Ferrari models, not one Testarossa :D

    thats a shame Marnix, its key modell you are missing.. ;-)
    I also have these... AMR Factorybuilt and 512TR...

    Make Ups are perfect, but have an aging problem, resin shrinks and windows lift over time.. something these heavy models will never have..

    Those AMR's look really good. I am not too impressed with the BBR version Testarossa, but that is a pretty old model.

    I would just like to point out and correct that NOT all resin shrinks over time! I have been manufacturing resin models since 1989, and have had NO shrinkage issues with any of mine, nor of some other manufacturers I have collected and seen over many years. That said, I too have seen the shrinkage problem on many or most of the resin models that are made in China. The type and quality of resin varies as do the various adhesives, and other materials. The MakeUps are made in China.

    Marshall, thanks for the compliment.

    As you can see in the pictures 1/2 my collection are made of resin. (1:43 and bigger).
    Most brands are perfect over time and develop no isssues.

    Unfortunately not the case with some Make Ups... They are beautifull
    But over time, especially some F40s (best F40's ever made in 1:43) have a problem with deforming bodies, causing windows to separate and whitemetal parts to fall off..

    The TR in the pictures had the same problem.. Had to reglue the side windows.

    BBR made 2 different Testarossa's.The first were very early models which were to square.
    Later versions (+/- 5 years ago) were much better.

    The make up is the nicest ever made in 1:43!

    Ok guy's I'm going to basically copy an email I sent another member for advice on fixing / cleaning up a few cars I have from polishing the windshield and outside paint to glueing the parts bumper back on and what products to use. Links to photos of the damage below.

    Also you have made me not want to order Eidolon 250 gto hearing about these problems!

    I'm going to include of some different problem cars I have right now 3 in total. I'd also love it if you could give me advice on dusting, if you can polish or get light scratches out of windshield as well as paint. I do not know how to do this. I've read a lot but using products scares me.

    First up is a damaged Lusso I got. I have searched for the model for a long timebut am not sure if I can fix it. The seller has offered a refund or partial refund (didn't say how partial) so I'm trying to decide what to do. The back was not screwed down so bumper came off+ window frame

    Second up is the BBR 250 GTO;

    Here you can mainly see the window scratches, although they are hard to photograph. Also similar scratches exist on the paint and window lenses, as well as still some crud. I cleaned the car up with a q - tip and water as it was nearly caked around the hood edges with dust. Here the photos are;

    Third up is a 250 SWB, it has some dust / surface scratches down one side. I'd really love to clean them up somehow;

    The damnage on the cars are not that difficult to fix, but need some carefull attention.

    Reglueing the bumper and trim are the easy jobs. Just use bisonkit, its easy to use and doesn't leave stains and residu if it doesn't work the first time... Just make sure not using to much glue. any acces glue can be wiped off with a tissue and a drop of water.

    The polishing needs more experience... A rubbing compound and a good wax should be enough, but be carefull... trim or pieces can get damnaged if you are to rough..
    Use a non scratch material for polishing (the softest tissue you can find) I use tempo handcarchiefs..

    If you have no experience in building models, I would advice you to send them out to a professional builder. For a good builder its an easy fix.

    I can hand you some adresses if you want to have it done.

    Ok that would be great, any idea how much do you think I should ask for off the lusso (it was about 175$ us total).

    Marshall,
    I felt the same... Its a shame, Make Ups are fantastic models.

    In February I will visit Retromobile in Paris to collect several models I ordered.
    Amung them a Feeling43 P4 spider built by Barnett... A modelart 375MM by my friend Jean Francois Alberca, and several older built AMR and Le Phoenix Ferrari's.

    In Paris we will have our yearly meeting with several friends, collectors and builders of high level models. You will probably know most of them!!
