Left the house for 5 minutes. Came home and, for some reason, my 65lb dog had decided to crack open the wife's pill bottle containing 30 Armour thyroid pills.

I had to force 10 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide down the dog's throat twice until she puked up a huge pile of soft and bubbly pills. What a fun evening!

Anyhow - it got me wondering what would have happened to the dog had she eaten the pill and not puked 'em up.

I would think that that many would have made her puke anyway with out the H2O2.

After that mess though I would have shown her this.....

You should still take the dog to the vet... Good move getting the pills out of its stomach asap, but I'd still see a vet...

Has your dog been cutting its paws lately? Listening to heavy metal music? Not sniffing the butts of the other dogs at the kennel? Wearing a baggy trench coat?

Roommates dog happened to get one of my CD's in its mouth over the weekend and chewed most of it up.

Took him to the vet with the CD and they said to feed him soft food such as rice and pumpkin pie (no joke, day after Thanksgiving and all).

Hes ok, only small bits and no blood in his ****.

Glad I loaded that CD on to my iTunes earlier that day.

My girlfriends min-pin attacked a bag of hersheys kisses while we were gone. Glittery, colorful ****, but fortunately the chocolate didn't kill him.

chocolate will kill cats, but I'm not so sure about dogs.

cats are deathly allergic to some type of enzyme in chocolate.

Yes, chocolate will kill a dog. It's highly toxic to them. We had a dog get into our easter baskets while we were kids. He got REALLY hyper, then started throwing up everywhere. We figured out what he got into after seeing all the foil wrappers coming out of him. Got him to the vet asap. He lived after some of the vet's work. I don't recall what they had to do.

I have had a few dogs that at one time or another have eaten lots of things. Foil covered chocolate, pills, chicken bones, latex paint, antifreeze, etc.. They are no different than a two or three year old kid, they are either curious or snack hounds. Keeping things always picked up, doors closed, and everything delicate or dangerous out of reach is really your only defense. You cant really trust a dog around chocolate anymore than a person. Thats not to say you cant teach them to be very obedient, just that you should never trust them around anything dangerous.

In the case of antifreeze, I had just drained it into a pan, had barely slid it out from under a car when the pup had got into the garage. I seen him from across the room run over to lap some, he maybe got three laps before I nabbed him. Same deal, Hyrogen peroxide made him barf. Same deal with the paint, he just walked up while I was painting the house and gulped some down. Both events were same pup, a week apart. He lived 3 weeks shy of 14 years.

It's a good point to make about the hydrogen peroxide though. Also, if ever in doubt you can call poison control, just like if it had happened to a person. While dogs' GIs are very robust when it comes to digestibles (food, bacteria, etc.) they can be very vulnerable to foreign objects. It's common for them to experience tears or twisting in their intestines.
