Since i was 12 years old it has been a dream of mine to own a Ferrari. Tens years ago i made that dream come true with the purchase of an 1987 328GTS. Due to some circumstances and my retirement fast approching i decided to sell the car and invest the money. I listed the car on this site and another one, but only recieved e-mails from a few tire kickers which i didn't mind because i still had the car. Then i decide to give the car to a dealer www.kipshewardmotorsports.com to sell on consignment and see what he could do over the winter months. I didn't realize how fast he would sell the car once i gave it to him. As of Friday i am no longer a Ferrari owner. Even though Kip made the process easy, pleasant and even took less on his commission so i got close to what i wanted out of the car it still feels like i lost my best friend. I realize that owning a Ferrari is a gift and a privlage and if you have the money to buy one you should take advantage of it. I know that in the future i will buy another Ferrari and it will be from Kip, but until that time comes i will regret selling mine.

Hey Mark, great write up. Its funny how we become so connected to our cars! Hopefully, and if appropriate, another, even better car will be a part of your future. Enjoy your retirement, John

I feel you man. Every sports car I own is part of me. I customize from the 1st day I buy. My Ferrari is a dream car for me. Dude, you can say you had a Ferrari, drove it, loved it, lived it. That’s more than most mortals can say. Move on but never stop believing that if you dream it, it will come.

Wow, great write up. Sounds like a very difficult time, that you are handling as well as you can.

What will your next Ferrari be?

I feel for you, too. Six years ago, after my job took an unexpected turn, I sold my 308 to focus on getting my finances in order for retirement. I still miss it. But retirement is now 4 months away, and earlier this year I picked up another 308. May you fare as well!

Depends on what the future holds....I am 43 and have less than 6 years until i get a full retirement. Even through we have an outstanding pension system with great medical i don't know what today's money will be like in 20 years and i want to do whatever it takes so i don't have to work again. I do have a few cars on my wish list, but if i am given the chance to own a Ferrari again i will take whatever i can get.

Mark I feel your pain I just sold my 308 GTS QV although it is still in the garage waiting for a truck to take it away It feels like a part of me is gone.
Will I get another I don't know but at least I made my dream come true of owning a Ferrari. I will always have the memories, and also the relations of wonderful people I was able to meet because of the Ferrari.
It is interesting I used to fly to Italy back in 80's because of business, and was able to visit the Ferrari plant twice this is when I said I will someday own a Ferrari, and it came true.
I will always remember my first Ferrari along with 5 years of ownership, and who knows their may be a second. Time will tell isn't that what we all have is time.

Remember that owning/driving a Ferrari is not something that you absolutely cannot do again, just because you sold this car at this time.

Ten years ago I sold my 328: "The car's getting too old to be reliable, parts & service are shrinking, I can get more performance today with less money, blah, blah."

Ten years later here I am with another 328, having a blast. :D

If you eventually decide you want to re-horse, there will be plenty of nice, affordable Ferraris out there waiting for you to take one of them home. :)

Ferrari ownership is also in the heart. You'll take her within you wherever you go!

Very nice writeup. You may be close to retirement, but you still have a lot of years. I bet something will turn up to get you back in without affecting your retirement plans. Good luck!

For what it's worth 49 years old, retired, with no work to do and no Ferrari to drive around in doesn't sound like an ideal situation. Healthy American Males are slated to live well into their late 80's according to Insurance actuaries, and all those years doing nothing without a Ferrari sounds very boring indeed.

I'm assuming you're retiring from your present position because you will have "done" the specified amount of years on the job.
That doesn't mean you are unable to do something else that will not only supplement your retirement income, but will provide the wherewithall to buy another Ferrari. In fact I'd run down to Kip's place and buy the car right now!

You said it. I am 42, and barely getting started. It is nice though when you don't "have" to work anymore, and certainly if your work is something not enjoyable.
