I've been daily driving a high mlg E36 M3 Coupe 5 speed for the past 2 years. It's a 188k mile 8.8KUSD craigslist special with all new suspension, brakes, interior, paint.......... I took it out for 2 HPDE days last month... and the tired S52 motor was consuming 1 qt / 2-20 min sessions on track! a little excessive.

I'm dropping the car off with a shop in Austin to have an S54 Swapped in (that is the E46 M3 motor) a st six with ind throttle bodies and another 50 rwhp.

We're going to take some time to make this somewhat factory.... using the z3m car gage cluster so it has a tach that rev's past 8k.... etc...... going to keep the following operable: ac, obd2 port, cel, ps, etc.....

the goal - to build the ultimate iteration of the e36 with the best na 6.

    wish me luck.

Pivot- s54 too much coin and trouble. Ls1-t56 in order... ls swap e36 starting soon.

My stock e36 m3 drive train is for sale////:

    E36 m3 drive train for sale 1999

I’m selling the running driving drive train out of my 1999 m3. incl: Complete motor, trans, shifter, driveshaft. Ecu, spares, w high perf Bolton’s.

You can drive my car before you buy. I’ll wait to pull it.

I purchased car 2 yrs ago w 176k miles and have daily driven the car for past 2 years now at 189k miles.

    Starts, drives, runs great.

No stalling, only 1 random p0422 cel which is gas cap or evap tank in trunk. Comes about 2x per yr.

I’ve done 2 ax events and 2 half track days at msr, and engine trans performed well w no hiccups.

    New in last 2 yrs:
    Starter
    Sp plugs
    S50 mani
Bigger mass air meter and tune
    Bigger injectors and tune
    Ported Dinah tb
    Cai
    Header
    Vanos solenoid
    Crankcase piping separator
    Uuc shifter very good shifting

Motor has what I consider high oil usage at 1 qt per 600-1000 miles dep on how you drive. It’s been like this over past 10k miles. Does not smoke or leak.

I would reseal or run as is for a bargain motor.

I’m selling to make room for a 2002 formula ls1/t56 swap which will begin as soon as I find a buyer for this setup. I’ll cont to dd it until sold.

Also comes w ud cranknpulley kit not installed, spare fan shroud, laptop w bmw diag interface software.

Asking 1800 cash for the lot pickup in San Antonio area.

    Obo

    Thx all.

Will do Paul. I’m posting my project here and not on the bimmer forums, as it appears the bimmer purists get up in arms w a gm motor in the beloved m3 /)

love the e36 m3 - even today in stock form it puts a big smile to my face. much more enjoyable on the street than any new ferrari.
im debating s54 on my 98 m3/4/5. will prob just end up doing the top half of the s52 motor and settle for 310 hp to the wheels

Sounds like a good plan, that's more power than a stock S54

tt - the s52 loves boost.
int - i've been stock piling the vorshlag ls swap kit parts, and I just pulled the trigger on a stock 56k mile ls1/t56 pull out from a 2002 formula firebird. Getting the entire pull out oil pan to mass air meter, to trans mount, ecu.

Today I start the tear down, as I'm off over xmas.

1st step is to document the cond of current drive train to post it up for sale. then I'll start the dismantle.

Wish I could change the thread title.... as now it is just click bait..... oh well. I guess it is relevent since due to my discovery real-time of the s54 expense vs ls power.
