Ok, I won an auction for a Stebro exhaust for my Euro 308 QV on May 20, 2006. Here is the item:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8065285024

This was supposedly a "demo" unit from Europe. From the auction description and feedback dates on similar items, I assumed that it would take 30-45 days to receive the unit. On 06/17 I sent an email to Dan Petschenig and he immediately responded that it would take a bit more time and he would contact his offices in Europe to get a status. A few days later he responded that the unit was on it's way to Ottowa and he would provide shipping info once he received and re-shipped the unit to me. I sent him another email on 06/23 requesting an update. He immediately responded that they had not yet received the unit but "I will express ship a new M1 exhaust out of our stock to make up for the delay". I sent another email on 06/27 and he responded that the unit was in transit to me. I received the unit today, 07/05. Pic #1 is the unit as received in it's packaging. Pic #2 is the unit unwrapped. Pic #3 is the unit next to the stock muffler. The stock muffler weighs 41lbs - the Stebro is 31lbs. Pic #4 is the stamp on the unit showing 409 stainless. Pic #5 is closeup of welds on the unit. Pics #6/7/8 is the unit installed.

Installation took all of 30 minutes, the fit was OK. The tips sit a little lower than stock but I see no way to adjust them. The unit sounds great, nice and throaty. I'll post a sound clip in a few days.

As far as I'm concerned, Stebro and Dan Petschenig get an A+ for customer service and prompt communication. The unit certainly doesn't look like a Tubi and doesn't have as good a finish but it was only $920 plus shipping! I'm happy!

Here's a better pic of the tip position. As you can see, they are centered but a little low.

Glad for the post - I was wondering about the stebro - was considering the unit for my tr, however at 1750.00 it probably makes sense to just get a tubi, based on your feedback.

I by NO MEANS mean any offense here at all but if I were you, I'd be a little pissed about how low it hangs. It just doesn't look "right".

I took the car out for about 30 minutes and the sound is great but not overwhelming. The throttle response is much better. Feels a little quicker, maybe I got a few HP from this! I admit that the tips are about 1" too low but there is no way to adjust this. I'll send a pic to Dan and see what he says.

Jay, I just bought the x-ost for my TR. When I get it back from the major service (hopefully next week) I'll get you a audio clip.

I think it is a good deal. Thanks for the info. Personally, I think I would have a local shop shorten the pipes by about 2-3 inches to get the tips closer to the cutouts. Enjoy!

i think it looks fine as is and would leave it right there. don't open a can of worms that you don't need to. how often will someone lie on the ground to look at your muffler ???
i bet it sounds fantastic when you open'er up.

Sounds like a good deal. I wonder if they have any others?

I think it looks fine as installed- I wouldn't touch it.
I also like the fact that the Stebro outlets (4) have their own pipes from the muffler, unlike the stock muffler that splits one pipe into two tips (I also have the stock muffler on my car). Did it come with removable tip inserts, or is that another brand of muffler I'm thinking of?

Please post a sound clip if you can.

    Thanks for posting-

I sent pics and measurements off to Dan yesterday to try to resolve the low tip issue. My stock muffler and tips were correctly oriented so I'm not sure why my unit is so low.

What did Jet-Hot charge you for coating? They quoted me $300.

Here's a pic of the exact same angle on my car. It sure looks like a fabrication issue with the tips/pipes might be to blame. Then, again looking at the photo closely, my muffler seems to sit at a different angle than yours. Not sure what's going on here.

It did come with the removeable inserts but I like the way it sounds without them.

I believe they charged $90.00 for the muffler and about $220.00 for my headers. Plus shipping.

Thanks, $300 seemed like it was a high just for the muffler. I'll have to give them a call to clarify.

My independent Ferrari service center placed an order with Stebro for my TR more than two months ago (flanges still on order from their subcontractor - same explanation as last month). Unfortunate thing is that my service center pre-paid so all we can do is wait and hope for the best.
