OK I don't have a SD2 or anything else that will tell me why the CEL came on and I never had a CEL come on in a year. I recently had a Major 30, clutch and brakes. All is running great. I did have a "slo down" light come on but that went away real quick last week. Today my wife and I went to lunch - its hot out about 90. We were just idling along around 30-40mph. Had lunch. Then took her for a little drive about 10 miles - all still ok. Then went on the tollway got it up to about 100 slowed down to 80 for most of the trip. When I was getting off I noticed the CEL. I thought it was the reflection from the sun - seemed dim. Still hot out. So when I stopped I took a picture of the dash and all gauges are reading right. Absolutely nothing wrong. So, I know this is pretty vague but do you guys have any thoughts? Thanks.

That really is like a needle in a haystack. Best thing to do is get in touch with someone with a code reader or purchase a reliable one yourself, anywhere from $50-$300 for a decent one. My last and only CEL (knocking on wood right now) was for a cam shaft positioning sensor. There was a small adjustment need on the timing and all was better. The thing to know, is even though everything on the gauges looks good, something in the cars engine management system or one of its many other sensors sent a signal that is outside the vehicles parameters. Normally it is not really associated with the way you are driving (unless your tracking the car or pushing it hard and even then it probably would have happened anyway).

I use the Dash Command app on my iPhone and iPad and use Palmer Performance product call GoPoint BT1. I believe I paid about $50 for the port plug in and $20 for the app.

It checks and clears codes and have an inordinate number of gauges to monitor everything on the car from Hp, Torque, MAF, MAP, Oil and water temp, and even fuel economy. I use it in all my vehicles.

    Good luck with your search.

Deiger, Thanks. That's what I have been looking for - info on a app. I was checking them out this weekend and there were quite a few free ones and I did see the Dash Command but I didn't know about the GoPoint.

Thought - if you refer to the Yellow CEL in the left hand corner - hot day / full tank ? Fuel cap is extremely frequent cause - error should be P0440 as I recall

Does that set up read both engine ECUs?
    Thanks

Alan, not sure what you mean by both engine ECUs, but when the CEL (or little engine block appears) I plug in the GoPoint, connect it with the app (either on my iPhone or iPad) and it reads any and all codes the car threw. I can reset them at that time or leave them up for the tech to read.

Mike (spikes360), the GoPoint BT is the device that talks to the app. I would assume that there are numerous devices to talk to these apps, but the reviews on the GoPoint were the best. Granted this is basic stuff, but for my money it gives me all the information I need to know if the car is safe to drive and make sure all parameters are in-line.

If I get some time this week, I will try to put up some photos or a short video on it. Bear with me, I am still learning my GoPro camera.

Jimmie, Hot day but 1/2 tank and did not touch the cap for a few weeks. I'm going to break down and get a code reader. Thanks.

Sorry, I had a problem with the video and had to delete it. I will try to put another one together and get it up.

My apologizes. You won't be disappointed with the BT1 or Dash Command.

I downloaded the Dash Command but now I cant find the BT1 anywhere. I sent an email to GoPoint but they haven't responded yet. Would you have a phone number?

I believe that you can get codes on both ECUs (left and right bank) and have to have the ability to talk to both. IIRC the simple readers that say Autozone uses cannot do that.

Correct. A good code reader/software will give you an option of which ECU to connect to.

Yes. I had two CELs come up, one reference one bank which was the timing issue. Then a second referenced the other bank which turned out to be a bad sensor. So I would say the answer to your question is yes.

I ordered directly from their website, link below:

    Connected Vehicle Solutions

However, now it seems there is no "Add to Cart" for the Apple or Android plug-in. They do have a voicemail number on the Contact page:

    Voice Mail: (248) 232-3078

To be honest, I wasn't too impressed with either GoPoint or Palmer Performance's customer service, but their products do as they promise and I am happy with their performance.

My suggestion, wait a couple of days for a response, if none give the voicemail number a call. Wish I could help more. Just for FYI, I bought mine back in January and the "Add to Cart" was there. Perhaps they are out of stock.

    Good luck!

A friend of mine lent me a generic code reader & 2 codes came up: p0442 & p1446. Now I did a search for these codes & what I read about the cats, SDL, & shutting down one bank or another none of that came up. So should I just clear the codes and see if they pop up again?

Make a note and clear it. For the P0442, try tightening the gas cap. As to the P1446, it's more involved. You'll need to swap the exhaust ECUs and/or thermocouples between the banks and go through the process of elimination. Save yourself the pain and hassle. Take it to someone with an SD2 and call it a day.

Well this weekend I cleared the codes and then drove it around for about 60 miles and nothing reappeared.
