After a long search my first Dino is home. #1350 is a very original numbers matching 2 owner 43K mile Euro GT that was imported directly by Ferrari to the US before the US models were imported. It drives nicely and has a nice interior, but has cracked paint and some body rust. A bare metal respray is in its future.

I want to thank the many F-chatters who gave me advice and helped me in my search including Shawn, Jim, Matthias, and especially FREEMAN who helped me find the car, guided me through the whole process and even came by the house to see the car and teach me some things about the Dino.

    Sam,

Congrats, it is really a cool car with great history.

Be careful with the surf boards, Gregg had a stray board put a nice hickey on his 206.

I hope there are more to come in your future!!!! I got my "first" (only one to date, bummer) way back in 1984 when I was a baby just out of Penn State University.

Here is a link to order your Compendium. A MUST HAVE!!!!!!

As Sam mentioned I drove *01350* on Saturday. Drove really well. A really nice matching numbers original example. This Dino was brought in by Chinetti and was shown at the 1971 Miami Auto Show. Maybe someone has some pictures stashed away? According to official Chinetti/Ferrari records this Dino was recorded as a "competition" model from the factory. This is a very special Dino. It is not the one from Symbolic. Was sold through Driver's Source in Texas. I happened to be online looking for Dinos and it popped up. I contacted them and they immediately replyed. I forwarded the info to Sam. Seems like a really honest place.

I think all early european Dinos were bought into the USA new as "competition" models by Chinetti. The 1970 documentation for mine states "intended for competition purposes only" and cites the FIA homologation files/group 4. I've seen this on other early european-only cars. Of course it was driven right out of the showroom onto the street.... and presumably to the race track.

... and congratulations on the new car Sam.
I wonder if the (different-from-regular) side markers were required for compliance and installed early on - as a sign of things to come?
The car might look better with them removed but maybe they have some historical value if Chinetti or Ferrari installed them.

Don't think Ferrari put on the side markers. Looks to have bare minimum to meet DOT. Has MPH speedo probably put on at factory. Still has Euro seatbelts. Docs show it was sold to Algar when new. Ferrari docs(not Chinetti) on Ferrari letterhead do describe it as "Ferrari" Dino!

Thanks guys for all the comments.

Reading through the posts, I can see how passionate the Dino owners are about their cars and how helpful they are to each other.

I'm looking forward to joining this fine group of car enthusiasts.

I had the same thing happen in the other garage when the boards were horizontal over the hood of my 993 Carerra and a windsurfer fell off and dinged the fender. I'm going to put a second rope in front of the boards just in case.

Also, thanks again Shawn for taking the time to evaluate another Dino I was looking at and for your advice.

Do they make surfboard racks for Dinos? Just joking.

The boards go in the Cayenne - less than 2 miles to the surf.
