I was lucky enough to have some alone time with this beauty on Wednesday. What a special car. Took a few pics with my iPhone. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

John Collins bought it over the telephone for $16.5 million. He reckons he got a bargain and was prepared to go to $20 million.
Thanks! Lucky me. And I made a mistake didn't see the car Wednesday, I saw it the Sunday before during the Laguna Seca pre-historic reunion. Glad I swung by the polo fields! The car was sitting there with a few other beauties... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Always nice to see another Ferrari that is not red, like that black 365 GTB/4 there. Good stuff. Was it your facebook page that had hundreds of Pebble Beach exotics pictured from previous years? There was a different light green 458 Italia that was a one off color you photographed then to? Maybe you can show that one again in the 458 section...
Just got back from Monterey and was very disappointed this time. Not only was it very, very hot. It seems to me the enthusiast event of years past has been turned into a 2 week adventure to gouge as much as you can from each person and with so much going on spend most of your time in traffic. I think also the auctions have injected a greed aspect to the whole scene which I find troubling. Just my 2 cents. Did I mention it was very HOTTTTTTTT! Highlight was meeting a few chatters.
Captain Obvious says: ummm, cuz it's AUGUST? a hot, sweaty day in Monterey, CA is better than a hot sweaty day in CT
Who the hell would buy the car right NOW. You know he paid $16.5mil and will probably want what, $18m+ ? If you wanted that car NOW, you would been at the auction, or on the phone or net, right?
Bill capitalizes NOW. So let's say it sits in the showroom for a year. The "floor plan" carries interest at what? 5%? If so, it costs $800,000 just to let it sit there for a year. Ouch! Not to mention space rental, money tied up, etc. Let's hope that some remorseful non-bidder steps up fast. All that aside, still one of my all-time faves, looking absolutely smashing in one of the colors that Bertone used during his original ownership. The wow factor is certainly there, and that's worth something, I guess.
A potential buyer might actually be able to purchase the car for less than $20m right now, but that wouldn't have been the case at auction. If the same buyer had been bidding, he would have only managed to run JC up to a higher figure. I was there. Each of JC's phone bids was immediate and without hesitation. I believe it when he says that he would have bid up to $20m to get the car. In fact, Gooding might have already been informed of this and so the rep on the phone with JC could have just been placing the bids automatically up to that point.
As Bertone bought 250 GT SWB 3269GT as a complete car and rebodied it I was wondering if the Classiche Certification is Red or White Book?
Thanks Boudewijn. My mistake. I misread the Gooding description which clearly says that Bertone bought a complete chassis, not a complete car as I misunderstood so of course it wasn't rebodied at all.
In 1961 when Nuccio Bertone visited Enzo Ferrari at Maranello driving his latest design model (1961 Iso Rivolta prototipo) Enzo asked: "Would it not be a good idea if you had a car one day?" Nuccio aswered "Yes, I would like to have a Ferrari but I can't." Enzo: "What do you mean you can't? Do you want a chassis?" That is how the affair of Bertone's personel 250 GT came about.

Big two page ad spread from Talacrest in the new Cavallino. I wonder if it went to press before the sale, or does Talacrest still have it? You are a lucky guy to have owned this...one of my all time favorite Ferraris.
