CONGRATS!!!! I've been close, but close means absolutely nothing. And yours is even more amazing because of the long length of that hole.

    1. I haven't picked up a golf club in 2 years so I couldn't care less about pissing off the golf gods, they have no power over me ;)
    2. I'm a Texas Tech Red Raider! I'm allowed to make fun of anything and everything in Lubbock Texas, cause I've been there and done that. Steve knows I'm busting his chops. :D

All seriousness, the course itself is actually pretty amazing from an engineering standpoint, they really did take a flat cotton field and turn it into a great golf course, with lots of elevation changes and water features. And the wind is no joke out there.

Wind?? In Lubbock?? I hear that in the winter the only thing between Lubbock and the North Pole is a single strand barbed wire fence>> Wind really howls across the South Plains sometimes. Yeh, I know Lubbock. My old stomping grounds.......:>)

    Thanks guys

    I am pretty pumped.

I was told I am the only person to ever ace the 16th. It was absolutely dead calm today and my ball striking was quite good all day. There have been days when the wind is blowing so that I can't get home on 16 with a 3-wood.

I had already decided that I was never going to have a hole in one. I have holed out a few wedges from the fairway, but those were from inside of 50 yards. The 16th is uphill so I couldn't see the ball go in the hole. The group teeing off on 17 started yelling and jumping up and down. I knew I hit it close but I didn't think I hit it in the hole. When we got up to the green, they gave me a standing ovation. They were as excited as I was. And yes...I have retired the ball and I saved the scorecard. Pretty cool!!

Hey Dave......why no golf in 2 years? Are you insane? Did you lose your clubs? Do they not sell golf balls where you live? You gotta come back home and play this course. I'll even let you drive a cart!

The wind blew a bit yesterday. Gusts to 42. I played anyway. On the par 4 twelfth, I had an uphill 20 footer directly into the wind. The ball rolled two feet past the hole, and rolled all the way back down, and went past me 15 more feet. I tried 3 more times and never got the ball to stop any closer to the hole. Absolutely brutal. I finally just picked up. It was fun in a bizarre kind of way. Sorta like how fun it is when you quit hitting yourself in the face with a stick. LOL!!!!

If any of you ever want to play a bit of golf in Lubbock, give me shout. We will play the Rawls Course and I promise you won't be disappointed.

That is why you need a 1 iron (driving iron)

I just took the 1 iron out of play a few years ago. It was a BeCU Ping Eye 2 that I got in 89. A great 1 iron! I added a 58 degree lob wedge because I use the wedges a whole lot more than the 1 iron. The lob is my favorite club anywhere around the green. I still carry a 2 iron, but I am looking at replacing it with a hybrid.

It seems I may be the last person on earth carrying a 2 iron.

I carry a 2 iron. At one point I had 2 of them in my bag because one was good at using it in the fairway, and the other one I would use in shallow sand traps..

A former girlfriend hit a shot that bounced all of 117 yards to a hole-in-one on the 4th hole... her very first and only time golfing.

Her Father and 2 Brothers witnessed this and went nearly catatonic - since they're all in the ministry, they didn't kill her when she said "it's easy to get a hole-in-one."

However, they did nearly kill me when they found out she'd given up her virginity to me. Again, "it's easy to get a hole-in-one."

You could just send my Yueng Ling in the mail or the money for one and I'll get it. ;)

My dad got a hole in one a few years ago. They mentioned his name on The Golf Channel, probably the greatest moment in his life.

    Congratulations by the way.
