And yet it still seems like a lot of money.

Matteo...it surprises me that you don't do your own changes! Don't you rebuild Webers "for fun and/or relaxation"? It seems like you'd certainly do an oil change yourself... Anyway, everyone's situation is unique - I'm not judging - just sort of thinking outloud. :)

FWIW, here's what my last oil change cost me (DIY) in parts:

UFI Filter: $37.40 (and would be $15+ less if I went with a Baldwin)
    9 Qts Kendall GT1 20W-50 oil @ $2.59ea: $23.31
    Washer: $.58 (Ricambi America)

    Total: $61.29

Even if I used a synthetic at $6 per qt, I'd still be in under $100. I think the $8.75 charge you aren't sure about sounds like a "Metal & Plastic Cleaner"....? something to clean up some oil dribbled onto the motor, perhaps?

My old carb car had little if any records for service so I did the carbs and oil and clutch etc etc.

With my new car, it has all the records from day 1. And Dealer records at that so that dictates the service costs and who does the service.

    Records are a catch-22

Aaahhhhh.....I see. I had no idea you were in a QV - thought you still had the 78. My mistake. :)

Why don't you try Grand Touring? Lashdeep & crowd seem pretty pleased with them and while they're not exactly cheap, I don't think they're nearly as bad as what you seem to have found already...

I read your follow-up posts regarding what to do, how to do it and why... but, still... it was only an oil change.

Maybe the shop uses a Mechanic's Walker instead of a Mechanic's Creeper.

Seems high to me too. I just had the oil changed in my Murc at Nelson in Ohio and I was charged $370. The ticket listed 1 hour for labor and $270 for parts (oil and filter). I'd call them and ask them what they are going to do about it. My guess is they will adjust the price and credit you. Just place 3 phone calls to other service depts and get a quote for an oil change. When you present the quotes to them I am sure they will do the right thing. They certainly do not want to lose your business. What the hell - it's worth a try... $100 in your pocket is better than in their's. Hope it all works out.
