Today I had the best day in a long time. I got to be co-pilot on a run to celebrate a new 550 in the EC. Not only that, but it was also my first ride in a Ferrari. TomB offered me the seat so I jumped on it. It's all I was looking forward to pretty much all week. I even took the day off of work. The day was great, had a good run with great people and some decent food to end the day.

I arrived at the designated meeting spot, where I pulled up and saw Tom and the Mondial waiting and ready to go. We got in the car and we were off. Had a nice drive to our designated meeting point. One more then one occassion we hit a nice stretch of openness, and we were off. Arrived at our meeting spot at around 9ish. Was greeted to a nice lot of Ferrari, Lambo, P-car, and a nice Supra. It was my first time meeting a lot of the EC crew, and I can tell you that they are some of the nicest guys I've met in a while. Took a few pics (i'll post a link later), and eagerly awaited our departure. The time came for us to leave.

A right out of the parking lot and another quick right and we were on our way. Diablo, 355, 328, 308, TR, Mondi all taking off for the open highway. Made a quick right onto the highway and the Mondi did a little fishtail. The whole ride was breathtaking, the sounds, the sights, words couldn't describe. For a good 45 minutes or so that I was in the car I had a smile ear to ear, like a kid in a toy store. Had a good run going. Hit some decent speeds. Couldn't get over the fact that after 10 years of being a car nut, I was finally in the front seat of a Ferrari. Arrived at the restaurant at 1130ish, had some decent food and then had a nice spirited run back to my car. One word to describe my first ride in a Ferrari:

    Perfection

Thanks again TomB for giving me my first ride. It was a day I will never forget.

Saturday morning, after a gym workout, I gave my training partner, an enthusiastic 21-year-old, his first ride in a Ferrari. It wasn't very long--he didn't have much time available--but on a short stretch of freeway (less than 1/2 mile between exits) I touched 85 mph before having to slow down for the exit ramp. As we turned back into the gym parking lot, he said "sweet ride!"

He thanked me and I told him to keep the dream alive, and hopefully he wouldn't have to wait 30 years (as I did) to buy an F-car. But since he's 6'2", I told him he'll probably want to consider a bigger car than the 328!

    Chris,
It was my pleasure. When I first offfered the ride I had no idea that it would be your first in a Ferrari. I hope it approached your expectations. After all, ........it's JUST a Mondial. :)
