I thought I would post my update. I have been working on this in my spare time for the last few weeks. I wanted to really make the garage a more usable space in the house, and it fit into the rest of the decor. Before it was your basic four white walls with the water heater exposed, bare cement floor, etc. Now with me being ultra cheap I did it with a thought towards saving as much money as possible while not scrimping on quality.

For the floor I used the Armstrong industrial line of self adhesive vinyl tiles. It cost about 98 cents per square foot. While these tiles are not nearly as nice as the race deck style tiles I couldn’t justify the cost. Also the epoxy is very nice, but getting the pattern I wanted would have been next to impossible for me to do. Also I placed an anti-fatigue mat down in front of the bench. That alone has made a world of difference in the comfort level.

The cabinets are the bottom of the line kitchen level cabinet from the local home improvement store. They are a lot better quality than the regular “pop together” type cabinets from Wal-Mart etc, and once attached to the studs in the walls they can support a lot of weight.

For lighting I have the standard fluorescent lights attached to the ceiling, but over the work bench I added halogen under the cabinet lights. That is another place where a few dollars went a long way.

The work bench is pretty funny. It is a standard kitchen counter top that happens to match the floor tiles to the last detail. I found it in the kitchen area with the cabinets. With a few 2x6 boards I was able to carve out a pretty darn nice work bench for very little $.

After repairing a few things on the walls and building a vented enclosure for the water heater I was ready for paint. Four gallons of light gray paint later I had my garage almost finished. I had a print of a Gallardo drawing and an F1 collage poster all ready framed. Also thanks to Daniel at Ricambi America I had 4 sweet Ferrari engine posters delivered to my door. A few frames later they looked great and were hanging on the wall.

All in all I am very happy with my garage. It’s nice enough to set up a bar for friends when having a summer barbecue and functional enough to get some work done on my cars.

    Ciao’

    Steve

Looks great, I wish more folks would redo their garage with Ferrari theme. Or any theme, besides the lets-see-how-much-junk-we-can-pile-up theme, for that matter.

Congratulations on a job well done! When do you want to come do mine? I had to reread your e-mail several times. I did not see anything in your message about the changes you were making to your black Ferrari. Or maybe you arranged that for the photo op?

    Looks like somebody either:

    1) got a raise
    2) found the keys in Mr. Barney's desk drawer
    3) is looking for a good divorce lawyer right about now.

    What'll it be?

1 and 2 are correct...but 3 isn't...she loves the F430...I mean I was shocked how much she liked it! It is now with it's new owner though and he is very happy...but I was sad to see it go.

Thanks for all the compliments...I had to get that place cleaned up and lookng presentable. I am very happy how it turned out. I was using the less is more theme, and I think it worked well. I have a ton more posters and various "wall art" in my collection but I thought keeping it simple was better

    Thanks again guys,

    Steve

The tiles look really good. You don't see a ton of pictures crammed into an art gallery, and your garage is definately an art gallery. I absolutely agree with the less is more statement.

how slippery are those tiles when wet? if you pull the car in when raining, will the car slide on the wet tiles?

They get slick under your feet, but the car dosn't slide at all. I washed the 328 the other eveining and I pulled it in to dry it off out of the sun. The floor got slick as can be for my feet, but not an issue for the car.

    Thanks

    Steve
