    My German Shepard “Porsche” just died. She was fine yesterday, older but eating well, good weight, etc. I went to feed her this morning & she was dead in her dog house. Lying there like she died in her sleep. She must have just died as she wasn’t even stiff. What the f*** do I do w/ a 90 pound body the size of a 12 yo child? I tried to dig in the back yard but too many roots to get far so I dragged her way back into the woods next to my house & covered her w/ pine straw. She was the smartest dog I’ve ever had w/ a heart of gold. My Lab is older than her & has had cancer but is doing well. I kind of wish I knew what killed her.

    Poem for Dog Lovers

    Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some time.
    Here, come sit beside us for awhile .
    and let me tell you about this old friend of mine.
    She might look tattered or maybe old
    But I won't say goodbye until you've been told.
    She had the brightest eyes I had ever seen,
    And wore a beautiful fur coat that would out shine a queen .
    She was never prissy but walked with an aire ......
    And oh so polite, you could take her most anywhere.
    She could run like the wind and could catch anything she chased
    But she protected and sat with me when I had problems to face.
    You could not find a friend nearly so dear.
    Because no matter the trouble she always stayed near...
    She has never asked for much from me;
    Just to love and respect her and I think you'll agree .
    To give her a good meal plus a nice warm bed is not much to ask ;
    When she has given me all her love and to her this was no task.
    Now I understand you have a schedule to keep.
    But I have a small favor before she nods off to sleep.
    Please fold your wings around her and let her feel young while in no pain ;
    Dear Guardian Angel of Pets ,
    please keep her safe and happy until I see her again.

    It's unfortunate that your beloved pet died..... for a minute I was worried that the gun thread had taken a bad turn.

    All of us at FChat are sorry to hear about the loss of your Shepherd.

    I don't know if you tried this, but sometimes it's much easier to dig a hole with a pick than with a shovel. When I buried my dog in July (our soil is very clay-ish), I couldn't get down more than six inches or so without the pick. It was still quite a job to get down to the 24" depth.

    So sorry for your loss. I understand the pain, but I can say, that we have had to put 3 of our babies down and I would have MUCH preferred that they had died quietly in their sleep. We cremated our dogs with ash return in a nice wooden box...

    Peace to you and your family.

    I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know the feeling. My German Shepherd died a year ago on Oct. 23rd. I finally got a new one 5mo. ago from a breeder. Take him to the Vet. DON'T bury him in the yard! Too many years you have shared with him!!!!!!

    Sorry for your loss. I had to put my best friend down last year, "Trooper" was also a GS. We had 13 good years together. I did put him to rest in my backyard with the help of a close friend, he happens to be a Secret Service K9 handler, it helped having someone around that understood the bond.

    Very sorry about her passing.She was a beauty. The GS is a fabulous breed. She'd want you to get another one soon.
    We've cremated the pack members we've lost recently,your vet surely knows a local provider.
    A sudden death like hers sounds like a stroke or cardiac related but the vet would have to do a necropsy to be certain.
    Again sorry for your loss,
    RE

    So sorry to hear about Porsche.

    My boxer, Polo, almost died yesterday. He's very old and has a severe stomach/intenstinal issue (cant remember the name) and he must have eaten something to flare it up and I found him whimpering and his stomach was swollen 3 times larger than usual. This has happened twice in the past 3 years. Rushed him to the vet and they said he wouldnt have made it if I didnt find him when i did.

    Poor old guy has hip displasia as well. vet says Im going to have to put him to sleep within 12 months :(

    So sorry to hear of your loss Karen; I know the pain! My best Pal passed away about 13 years ago and I still think of her everyday.

    She was a Yorkiepoo named Piper, and I still miss her till this day. I do thank God that I was able to spend time with her; I'll never have a better friend.
