Ring Times?
No times quoted but says he believes Porsche claim of 7:18 for the GT2. Apparently it rained most of the day of testing. Excellent article-Harris is a damn good auto writer. End result--the Ferrari brakes, corners, and sounds better and has a much more refined interior/build finish but the GT2 has blistering, almost unworldly punch out of the corners and into the short straights--a point/squat/shoot marvel, is a raw fighter of a car and with a traditional gear box to boot. He also said the GT2 leaves the GTO on rolling, out of the corners accelerations. (Not atypical of experiences with any rear engined so-called "big block" Porsche--the mechanical grip is the major asset) His bottom line is they're both absolutely fantastic, and nearly polar opposites in driving styles. In his opinion its basically a toss up but he personally prefers the GT2--though he understands and agrees someone else could equally prefer the GTO and he'd have no real argument. His last line in article is : "Honestly, we've never had it better than we have it now!"
Was the Porsche claim ever documented by video/neutral party? The GTO spent some testing/development time at the 'Ring. Any #'s reported thus far? Fresh out 'o questions. Thanks in advance for any links, etc ...
Doesn't say it was "verified" just that it was "claimed" by Porsche for the GT2 RS. In case of GTO, I know there was development work done at Ring but no one has given any indication of times--esp as to "official/unofficial" hard lap--at least as far as I know.
Agreed 100%. I hope we get a bit of advance notice as to when testing is scheduled. My guess is you'll have a fairly large, excited, bunch of board members that make the trip!
Looks very very close--but mine has carbon fiber mirrors...and final production was completed at the factory Sept 14.
The GTO on autogespot is my brother's and It was me in Monaco and Saint tropez. We went on the Ring and the car was really fast, I was there with my gt2 and chris harris with the gt2 rs. He was in love with the gto, the sound, the feelings and emotions, but the gt2 rs is faster. I have a lot of beautiful pictures but I have to ask Chris to post them.
Very nice to hear about your GTO experiences!!! When Chris Harris first got a press car 997 GT3 to drive for a few hours he stole away to the ring with it for a few laps. This was against the wishes of Porsche so he had to drive right back to Stuttgart with the GT3 getting no rest. A ride around the ring with Chris Harris at the wheel would be great fun! He should buy a home near the track... CH
We were some friends, 599-gt2-gto-gt2rs. I always followed the gto and the rs with my gt2. I had a big fun, I also have videos but I prefer not to post them because the rs and the gto aren't faster than me because there were too much traffic and who is behind is usually faster because he has just to copy the front cars. Obviously on the net everyone would say that the gto is **** and the rs cost too much and is as fast as the normal gt2 (with chip)... www.manuma.eu/gto1.jpg www.manuma.eu/gto2.jpg www.manuma.eu/gto3.jpg www.manuma.eu/gto4.jpg www.manuma.eu/gto5.JPG www.manuma.eu/gto6.JPG www.manuma.eu/gto7.JPG www.manuma.eu/gto8.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO9.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO10.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO11.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO12.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO13.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO14.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO15.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO16.JPG www.manuma.eu/GTO17.JPG
Thank you Manu! Great pictures especially the last picture of the GTO chasing the GT2RS. Did you drive in the rain to? CH
That's the same place I parked when I was there recently. The GT2 RS looks like it's from Porsche's press office. The Nordschleife must have been a blast in the GTO.
Thank you so much for sharing these pictures with us Manu. Would be interesting to share your driving impressions with the GTO
Bentornato Manu!
Of course he would prefer the Porsche.......going to be an interesting article to read though. In my mind there is no comparison, one is an 50 year old evolution and the other brings lots of new technology to the party.
