In 15 years in Fort Lauderdale I never had such an embarassing moment on the beach or elsewhere, the closest one was the time I found myself face to face with a Manta ray, yes the huge ones, while snorkeling -don't know if it was more shocked than I was: I did not stick around to find out!-

Here is what happened to me yesterday:

Went to the beach on lake Geneva here in Geneva Switzerland , in a spot where there are diving boards: 9ft, 15ft and...30ft I had not jumped off a 30foot (10 meter) diving board since huh, the early 1980's in Portugal but since I felt frisky I thought I would go for it. Of course there are no 30 foot diving boards opened to the public in Florida or most of the US because our dear ambulance chasers would be 10 deep around the pool: "I saw the victim first!"

I warmed up with a couple of jumps of the 9ft and 15ft platforms and then felt ready to tackle the big mama....and thought hey no one else is jumping so I will feel like Indiana Jones...
so I went up there, there were a few people just standing around on the platform, but nobody was actually jumping, there was a lifeguard too so I asked is it open, can I jump he said sure go ahead.

So I switch off my brain (easily done) not to notice the terrifying distance down to the water and step off...and..... and...splatch! wow...I swim to the edge go up the ramp out the water, everyone is looking at me...well I know I am a hero celebrity jumper and everything but don't stare like that just form an orderly line for autographs on the right and groupies on the left and get that Russian blonde to the front and get me a martini shaken not stirred and ....what the hell is this flopping against my thigh...
#@*%>!!!??? my boxer short swimming suit was completely torn apart by the impact with the water and hanging loose on the right side..thank god it was'nt down the front at least!

Let's just say I got right back in the water and strategically as close as possible to my towel:)

Well that was my homer simpson moment next time I won't wear swimming trunks that turn into a parachute for "water sky diving:)

    Duh!

    Marc

    THAT IS FUNNY!!!!!

I remember when I was a kid that we were jumping on the 3m, the 5m and the 10m boards. Also remember the view from up there. Pretty much the same as from the Bungee-Jump crane. SCARY!

At least you did it. I can attest that I would not be able to turn off my brain and do that these days anymore.

    D'oh.

Hahaha.. that's too funny! I, too, was a little more daring with the high diving boards when I was younger... now I think it would take me a couple martinis for some liquid courage!! It's hard to land right without hurting yourself.

I remember being a teenager and tackling this ride at Wet'n'Wild in Orlando. When I got to the bottom I had the biggest wedgie of my life and my top was almost completely off.. THAT was embarassing.. :D Ha.

Stephanie: I would suggest using the slide at the nudie beach: that way no pesky bikini troubles:)

The first pair of breasts my 13 year old eyes ever did see, was the direct result of a water slide and a clueless blonde. Someday I will track her down and thank her...
