Have had the Gallardo for about one week and 200 miles. I have had the 355 for about 5 years or so. Here are my first impressions; Gallardo Very friendly driver. Fast but doesn't seem like it since it is so tight and smooth. Shifts like a Lexus, more comfortable seats, draws attention like a big dog! Did I say fast? It is fast! Feels like it can be driven daily without problem. Easy in traffic, stops... 355 Little more raw. More of a driver interactive experience. Classic lines and has a beauty unmatched by more modern cars IMHO. Clearly not as fast but sounds much faster with the Tubi. Feels more like a race car (yes, I have owned and driven several more raw Ferraris compared to the 355.) Bottom line is, I think I may have the best of both worlds. Very different cars, both a blast to drive, both have their own beauty. I have not intended to make any comprehensive analysis but these are my first impression. What a blessing to have both to play with.
Sounds great, there is nothing that can replace a 355. BTW you should have said the G shifts like an Audi not a lexus
You are correct except I haven't ever driven a Audi...... (Well maybe, kind of, not really, yea it is a Lambo!!!!!!)
My two best Italian friends. Other than my buddy Eugenio! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Comparing a red lambo to a silver f-car isn't a fair comparision. Silver is currently the most popular car color on the road today and it tends to be much more subdued. Wonder if your 355 was rosso if you would still feel this shocking difference? Nothing screams attention like rosso! Well, maybe a lime green lambo, but since you don't have one, I won't go there.
Well, I have had two red Ferraris. Somehow folks seem to think the Lambo is more rare. I can't explain it but it is real. Go figure!
I love the color of your new car! How many 355 did Ferrari bring to the US? The Gallardo is around 700 per year..
I've had both two. The 355 was so light on it's feet compared to the G. Felt more like a sports car. The G is stable like no other sports car I've driven. I love them both but the G feels so much more current.
Haven't a clue. Frankly, I've seen many more G's in the Bay Area than Ferraris. But, here in the great Central Valley, we are a little deprived. Both cars draw attention (not my primary reason for ownership!) but maybe the whole video game crowd thinks the G is more rare. Who knows? Just my experience so far.
Interesting. I actually see many more Ferraris than I do Lamborghinis around here. Dare I say it is almost more of a treat to see a Lamborghini because it's more uncommon. Maybe this is because Lamborghinis weren't very hot sellers until recent years whereas Ferraris have been selling since the beginning of time and I'm just not comparing apples to apples
I had a 355 and have looked hard at the Gallardo. I have to say, as an all-around sports car, you would be hard pressed to beat the G-machine. It is wicked fast, can be driven harder by lesser drivers than most exotics, has all-weather stability, it's durable and reliable, it's comfortable, and it's brash - all wrapped into one unique package. By comparison, the 355 really feels light but also feels fragile. I also thought in some ways it felt more "special" despite the Lambo feeling like the better car. One downside (to me) of the G-car is how insane speeds can feel mundane. I was testing an '08 at speeds that would require a court appearance, and we came to a 35 zone, so I hauled it down into the legal zone to talk specifics with the sales guy riding with me. I felt like I could have opened the door and stepped out. Then I looked down and we were still going 65 in a 35 zone! I thought...this car is just not a good idea! God I'd love to hammer one at the track... Stunning combo, enjoy both in good health!!!
Drove an '04 Gallardo and got up to speed pretty fast with no "drama". Drama is what alerts me that I'm going too fast. My Elise is dramatic about it
You just described my experience on day one. Took the G out for a little drive, looked down as I shifted from 3rd to 4th, 135MPH. Thought I was doing about 90.
That is the problem with most modern exotics. The driver is so isolated from the road/speed that the senses are dulled because the very exoticness of the driving experience is dumbed down through modern technology. That is the great intangible that the 355 (and maybe all older Ferraris..I dont know) has in spades. The noise the slightly too light and too fragile feeling, the feeling of being on the edge if you push it all create a real viseral thrill you just dont get in the newer cars. I have never driven a Gallardo, but have driven a Murci and as amazing as they are to look at, and lets give Lambo their due on that front. I know I would get bored after 6 months and would be looking at the next car.
