I made a spare ignition key, and it is now broken and got jammed in the lock!! When I first inserted it in, I could turn it from position "0" to "1" to "2", but then it got stuck, wouldn't go left, wouldn't go right and wouldn't come out. The locksmith tried to yank it out and finally it broke.
What should I do now? Is the lock service-able? I feel terrible now.

Sincere condolences, this can be very a difficult situation.

Do I understand correctly that it is stuck in the No. 2 position?

The cylinder is a split casing and if you depress the small retaining pin hole on the outside left of the cylinder case and pull out the whole cylinder it is like a jigsaw on steroids. It was designed to explode and defeat burglars and today still frightens advanced locksmiths.

The whole assembly is secured to the steering column by a set bolt on te connecxting rod that is broken off upon installation (also for security). If your locksmith cannot remedy the current situation, you may have to find a new assembly, drill out the set bolt and replace everything.

PS - As our cars get older, we may all have to face the reality of worn key cylinders

It is stuck in the #2 position, I could still hotwire the starter to start the engine.
The mechanic is trying to disassemble it right now, and then the lock will be sent to the locksmith.
Hopefully the cylinder is all that we need to replace. The whole assembly cost over $1000£.

Since you're proceeding to extract with the split cylinder (very bold), then locate the hole on the exterior side of the cylinder casing in about the eight o'clock position. Depress it and rotate to remove.

Are you using the same locksmith (or mechanic?) who forced the key and then broke it off?

The mechanic had the lock removed and sent to his locksmith for repair, the locksmith said it could be fixed this time but it might not last too much longer. Do you know where I can order a new lock? Thanks!

That is for the whole steering locking assembly. Can I buy just the lock?

Dennis McCann had cylinder assembly for my 400A. I imagine you'll find one without too much trouble. This is one of the most infuriating replacements of all, though. The price for the part verges on criminal.
